Shishumar and Sindhughosh Class of Submarines : Pictures and Discussions

His idea of buying too many 2nd hand subs is not good. The whole fleet will come in for replacement too early. And it is subject to the availability to enough second hand subs. 3 extra are enough. 2 will make up for the loss of 1 sub and 1 gifted away to Myanmar. Two more submarines will leave service pretty soon.
Does it come with an AIP?

Does it come with an AIP?

Nope. But upgrading the lead-acid batteries with Li-ion batteries can boost underwater range by a significant bit. Li-ion will likely even replace AIP in the future. The Japanese have already made the switch to Li-ion on their new subs, and removed AIP in the process.

The Kilo upgrade deal is big enough to make it economical. Especially if the Russians plan to do this for other sub programs as well.

We should accept the Russian offer with clear terms and strict timeline to fix the gap and delays in inducting new subs.
MoD must invest in building more workshops in Public sector and private sector ship building companies, it will drastically increase our capabilities to cater the domestic and export requirements.
We should except three additional submarine offer present under P75, till then we can finalize P75I. This way we can utilize time in efficient way to become a naval shipbuilding giant and a potential competitor.
Also, we may need to spend more to get AIPs and other missing critical techs and weapons installed in the vessels under P75.

Point needs to be remember that don't know how but Pakistan is acquiring good amount of new vessels with the help of China, Turkey and few other European nations. Their Agosta-90B is still more capable submarine in comparision toour existing fleet + increasing PLANs activity in Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea is also a potential threat. So at least to counter this probable threat we GOI needs to expedite the process of getting the required number of submarines with technological advancement keeping PLAN in mind.

Interestingly, the Zvezdochka shipyard made a formal offer for the sale of three Kilo class conventional submarines to India at a token price of one rupee. In a presentation made to Admiral Singh, the Russian side said it wants India to pay only for the approximate $250 million refit cost of each boat (Rs 1,857 crore).

Any provision for AIP ? IN can certainly try out the NMRL developed AIP in it . I know the idea's a bit far fetched but given the pickle the entire development cycle of our indigenous AIP has gotten into it's only going to boil down to a choice on what's the least costly & less damaging alternative to get the damn thing certified & operational in other submarines.

It's 30 year old subs not worth adding AIP on it.

Was about the post that but then it occurred to me we leased the Chakra - II after outfitting it & then there's the Chakra - III being outfitted.
Because no one will offer a nuclear submarine on lease or sale and nuclear submarine technology to India for any amount you may think of except Russia. Chakra is just a face for the amount paid for help we got and are getting for our SSBN and SSN program. Otherwise how come a country which hasn't built and still can't build a SSK built 4 SSBNs and have started building SSNs and bigger Avinash class SSBNs...😊
If it's already decommissioned there's obviously no life left in the frame . What's the point of the exercise ?
Can used as test mule. But better candidates are shishumar class HDW submarines which can be given midlife upgradation along with DRDO AIP....
