Project 18, Next Generation Destroyer (NGD) : News and Updates

Upcoming contracts include 8 NGC and 7 P-17B. P-18 is 3 to 4 years away.
Hopefully. NGC contract should be awarded soon.

For P17B, however, they're planning to release the RFP by the end of this year (not sure if calendar or fiscal). That would mean a possible contract signing by maybe 2027, and a keel laying by maybe 2028. Which means we may not start receiving ships until 2034/35/36 (depending on the amount of changes made vs P17A).

That means that after the last Talwar-class frigates in 2027, the only major surface combatants above 1500tons we'll induct until 2035 would be the NGC (maybe, possibly, 1-2 P17Bs).

Dont forget the ngmvs, also the NGC contract is to be awarded by March 2026 if you go by a conservative timeline, GRSE, the L1 bidder has even said that it is possible that the deal be signed in the next 6 months if the IN and the MOD push it.

Why do you say that? Its from navy PR.
WESEE and MDL have also used placeholder and fanart in their presentations.
If it's going to be four paneled Astra AAAU than ship going to get bigger..... Would probably make it the most capable destroyer on planet.

US Navy would die to have a 6 mt diameter radar on their warships...... Now imagine four of them each with 45,000 TRM with total of 180,000 TRM.........This radar would detect a B-21 size stealth bomber at upward of 500 Km easily.

Revised estimate 18,000 TRM max since it's operating in S Band that's 72,000 TRM in total..... With same power consumption & sensitivity as SPY-6(V)1 then range gain would be 1.5X.
>6k transmit and >8.5k receive elements per face.
It's one face will emit more power than all four MF-STAR faces combined.

Dunno, if it is cannon and from where they got those VLS figures but posting it here.

People saying it's not aesthetic need to relax. All IN early designs start out like this. This design looks a lot more realistic than what was released before. I just hope we start building multiple hulls soon. Should realistically only take 4/5 years to have them deployed.

I hope a lot of the clutter of the Kolkata and Vishakapatnam class will be ironed out.

Any update about UVLS or our Mk41 equivalent?
Honestly, haven't heard anything for very long time. Makes me wonder are we ditching it or just going to make BAPL's UVLS as our own True UVLS?

Plus it makes me wonder aren't we quad-packing our VL-SRSAM? Or is there in any such plans in the work?
Would be bummed out if we don't do that.

A common UVLS is generations away, because our missile systems are mostly of first gen itself, many of those are. You can not build a single common launcher yet, it will take more maturity in implementing the current ULS alone, then we can move onto some UVLS.
Not really
Then explain South Korea & turkey? How can they developed their VLS? Yes, Mk41 helped, but your point isn't & shouldn't applied towards our, lack lustre approach.
We have to accept that we lack, cohesiveness, joint defense SQR's for missile for common environment, short term planning etc...

Naval design bureau is very slow & creepy organization, they got more than a decade to design new generation of ships but still NGD & NGF are no where to be seen.

Now Our shipyards will remain idle for next 5 yrs due to their incompetence, at the same time Chinese will massively increase their presence in IOR.

Their ship designs are also not up to the mark & contemporary.

Less said about their submarine designing capabilities the better no surprise they keep repeating
LAST IMPORTS SAAAR.
LAST TOT SAAAR.

It's better if we invite foreign shipyards to setup their design centres in India.
