Indian Political Discussion

It's pretty clear you're not a fan of BJP's politics, especially the parts that are increasingly "saffronist." But if you have a problem with massive incompetence, corruption and an anti-Indian stance; there's frankly zero excuse to vote Congress.

And no thanks, it's the same old Congress trap of having a leader belonging to any particular demographic just for the sake of having him/her around to fill some quota, as a token of sorts. If there's a young leader with merit, bring him, there's no need for having a young leader who's an idiot, just for the sake of having a young leader. The last thing India needs is a Justin Trudeau.

And let's be clear, it's been ages since Congress stood for any kind of Hindutva at all; so if you want to vote Congress, sure, its' your democratic right, but please don't try to dress it up as something it isn't.

I am speaking about the Hindutva that includes all Indians.

From this soil.

Not only those who still practice Hinduism.

Big difference in both Hindutvas.

Why would you grudge a non Hindu the right to choose one over the other.

And who says your (BJP) Hindutva is more Hindu than my (Congress) Hindutva?

Cheers, Doc

Ok, I'll take your word for it.

But nope, not pissed, because I know it's coming. They'd be stupid not to milk it and build it at the absolute perfect moment for maximum political gain though. It's just smart politics. Not to mention, when your agenda is already considered so divisive (fairly or unfairly), you can't just begin implementing it full steam from day 1.

I sense deep disappointment.

Your less than stout defence cannot hide that.

2019 will be a ballot. In font of the EVM, there will be no need for pretenses. Or the need to hide your embarrassment at having been conned.

Cheers, Doc

Congress "Hindutva?" Engaging in reverse discrimination against the majority population and minority appeasement in the garb of secularism isn't inclusive or Hindutva, Doc. I have my problems with the far right when it's at its rabid worst; but it is a necessary and logical reaction to a lot of the nonsense Hindus have had to put up with thanks to members of certain communities and their benefactors sitting in the Congress party and other ideologically aligned left/"secular" parties.

Whats the use of all that when it is Hindus who will boot the BJP out?

A bawa who represents at max some 20-30,000 votes, which a small basti in India would top, is not going to change things.

Nice to voice out on forums though.

Cheers, Doc

Don't condescend to me, or presume to know my feelings/preferences Doc. After watching what Congress did to India for more than half a century, there's just about nothing BJP can do to disappoint me. And as I said already, I know the Mandir is coming at a time when its political impact will be optimal.

If anything, I can sense the worry in your words, because while you may very well be a supporter of a Ram Mandir, you're more than smart enough to know the implications for the political party you support in future elections once the Mandir goes through.

I did not know you were 50+.

That makes you my senior.

Cheers, Doc

P.S. Will you come back to India to vote?

Honestly don't know where you get the idea, but there's hardly an year left to elections now, so might as well hold your horses, as you were saying earlier on another thread. Tabhi doodh ka doodh aur paani ka paani ho jayega.

Call me clairvoyant.

Never forget which community led India to its biggest and ONLY definitive military triumph.

Your taking a swipe at our baugs will not change that.

A simple thank you would be nice.

Cheers, Doc
You mean Maneckshaw led all the Parsis to a triumph in 1971 . They finally had something of a revenge for whatever happened to them over all those centuries . By that token let's thank Feroze Gandhi too. His wife played a stellar role too .

Always the wiseass, Doc. No, I'm not 50+ or your senior, but then you don't have to live through history to read or learn it do you? Otherwise with the historical references you give about Persia one may take you for a contemporary of Xerxes.

As for voting, my parents used to once upon a time, I wasn't born or raised there, so I don't; I just contribute boatloads of money instead.

And Maneckshaw wasn't the first.

Nor will he be the last.

Yup, for the size of our community, we've had our shot at the top. Rajiv has always been seen as a Parsi by the community.

Even Rahul to an extent. Their family ties to the community are still strong (my immediate family on my wife's side ...)

Cheers, Doc

P.S. We do not see Indian Muslims (or Pakistanis) as representative of the Arabs.

For Parsis, they are the same people from the same civilization which we adopted as our new home.

Our enmity with Pakistan has nothing to do with religion. We are not Hindus, and do not share blood.

Its the ideology for us.

So you are a PIO.

How are you even Indian man? Sorry for being blunt.

I have many cousins like you. Same thing ...

Cheers, Doc

Ahh great, the same old anti-NRI bullshit. Really, Doc? With folks like you we're damned if we do and damned if we don't. But if that's the route you wanna go, then frankly, my roots to that piece of land go deeper than yours. So let's keep each other's "Indianness" out of this.

Thank you for claiming them both . Spares us the embarrassment . You can always be self deprecating in ways we can't .

Bro, that's the point. Your are not EVEN an NRI.

You are a second generation American of Indian origin. Who invests in India because the regulations allow you to, and India is more attractive in terms of returns than the US or any Western economy can or will be in the near to distant future.

Cheers, Doc

Again, damned if we do, damned if we don't with people like you. For someone whose own roots to India are pretty recent in the context of history, and who routinely rails online against checks of nationalism/allegiance, you certainly don't seem to practice what you preach.

Nothing like that.

India (the land) will always be your ancestral spiritual homeland.

Like E'ran will be for us.

If I feel it after a thousand years, surely you will feel it after barely a few decades away.

My comments were more in relation to what stake you have in India and its leadership and its social churn versus those of us who were born and live here.

Cheers, Doc

@RATHORE

To most of you, especially the American diaspora, Modi is still the rockstar.

I have seen it change in Australia in the recent months.

A telling indictment of his performance. I don't know. But its there.

Cheers, Doc

A stake of wanting to see the country of my and my family's origin make the progress and attain the status that I know it's capable of reaching. Watching the civilization that I am a descendant of, return to its past glory. A stake of my people, (including plenty of relatives, many of whom are active or retired service members) surviving and thriving in the one country in this world that is truly theirs, in spite of constant invasion and oppression and destruction throughout history. And the triumph of good, over evil like Pakistan and China.

I don't know what your connection is to Iran, but I know what mine is to India, and it's not for question by anybody.

Lol

That's the second time you edited your post.

So my connect to India of 1300 years and change is "recent" and transient in your books.

What hope then do you have of being accepted as an American?

After all, the nation of immigrants aside, it was built and settled by the white settlers from Europe. Will you rail against them as well?

Cheers, Doc
