If IAF really needs BVR missiles, then what's stopping India from working directly w/ Israelis to fit Derbys and other weapons on Sukhois and just telling Russia to take a hike if it objects? China steals/reverse engineers entire designs and Russia is able to do absolutely nothing...

We aren't China.

We need Russian permission before integrating third party weapons on MKI. No such restrictions for our own weapons though. But I don't think the Russians will create hurdles for the integration of Derby ER and ASRAAM.

China's very different. They steal Russian designs, but put their own stuff like radar in them, so they have no Russian restrictions. Also, airframe designs are not covered under IPR, so the Chinese can rip off any design they want. Others don't do that because they have pride.

The chinese cloning will now stop. China benefitted majorly when USSR collapsed. Russians were unable to pay their scientists and they even offered to lend them to India but our bureacracy stopped it. Chinese grabbed it and in the process they got some of the designs which were created by USSR but never converted to prototypes. JF-17 is actually Mig-33 design and was supposed to be a replacement for Mig-21s. The next major benefit for China came when Ukraine broke off from Russian Federation and relations soured between Russia and Ukraine. Once again Chinese bought off many designs and technology from Ukraine and also took away a large number of their scientists.

Yeah, there was a lot of help from Russian scientists. But it's a good thing we did not do that, or else we would have seen a repeat of the HF-24 in many projects, what with the questioning eyes of Indian bureaucrats, especially from intelligence. We saw what happened with Nambi Narayanan. A lot of projects would have seen a premature end.

well you have the answer in your own comment, we are not able to do any thing thats why. We might give crappy excuses like we should honor IP or friendship ....etc but the hard truth is we are not able to do it.

Russians would give permission or will be forced to do so if we had the capability to reverse engineer. We had same issues when Russia backed out of technology transfer for cryogenic engine under pressure from US. Once we were able to get going their stance weakened and now they are interested in more collaboration.
It was the same with cray super computers as well.

Hi, thanks for confirming :).

I think that you had this discussion with @vstol Jockey and he disagrees with the AWACS being on station as the ground controllers directed the Mig-21s.

Know of the crew on station, thank you.

PsyOps? May be. But then, maybe not. But one thing is sure, they were finding things difficult on their side.

And no, surprisingly, very light casualties occur in spite of heavy volume of fire because soldiers do withdraw beyond a certain point. No commander is foolish enough not to appreciate an untenable position (usually).

I did try and explain to him the difference in being airborne and being on station. He has probably not understood the difference.

Won't be too sure on that one.

AWACS have full ESM and ECM/ECCM capabilities including complete area Jamming.

I have expected the AWACS to have a self-protection suite, but having a full suite of high powered low, medium and high band jammers will be quit weird though. Especially standoff jammers.

But sure, if the Phalcons have it, then good.

MoD and sarkari babus , IAF is literally begging MoD to complete that project
There is way more dignified way of actually achieving it but it will require thinking beyond post retirement postings, thinking about country and IAF.

When you are more interested in being a yes man than a general you achieve nothing, humiliate the country and leave a legacy of a loser.

Our Defence Budget is limited

Hence Everything gets Delayed , Everything has to Wait

When Small things like Sniper Rifles take So much Time , Bigger things will obviously be delayed

It seems he is one of ours after all
Every journo out there is talking about his ban

Any inputs ? What's going on ?
