However, this testbench configuration was never considered as a potential upgrade for the Mirage 2000 fleet. In fact, from what I heard, the added weight and length of this nose made the Mirage much harder to fly -- something acceptable for a test aircraft, but not in an operational one!

Added weight due to AESA? Someone in forums are saying that AESA gives weight advantages. In fact, that is one planned weight reduction item for MK1A?

Mk1 has 200kg dead weight in nose cone, removed with aesa.
Aesa has more power requirements + cooling requirements + weight
Even before UAE had offered Egypt a part of there Mirage 2000 fleet for free.

Morocco is doubtful.

Assuming id r w article is correct, does it make sense to IAF to purchase used m-2000s from UAE after 2027?

Qatar too had reached out to India for their m2000. Considering that would have been a easier procurement with more airframe life left and easier and earlier to be delivered but we didn't go for it, seems we may not take up this one too.
As time goes by I am against procurement of either used Mig29 or M2000.

They have a OSD starting 2030 and that should happen. Mig29, M2000 and dariniii if they stay any longer they will become our Mig21, 23 and 27 of the 2040s.

All forth generation aircrafts should be relegated to internal air policing roles from 2035 onwards, if that's not the planning in top echolens then I have no idea what is their procurement plans. Whether we accept it now or in 2030s but our primary enemy's airforce are going to operate 5th generation aircrafts right on our borders from that period.

Don't forget the OSF! If you replace a radar with an optronic suite plus a radar, it's gonna be heavier and larger. Even if the new radar is lighter than theh old.

Also technically it was a PESA radar back then.

Getting hands on atleast 50-60 mirage and 30-48 mig 29 airframes on top of the already ordered second hand aircrafts would fix our air craft fall. We should do something similar to Pakistan's ROSE programme and integrate SCALPS,Brimstone and KEPD 350 to the mirage fleet. They have atleast two decades of service and we don't have enough numbers to handle both the Chinese and Pakistanis. That's the reality we need to accept. We don't have the manufacturing capabilities of the Chinese to rapidly mass produce. Mk2 will only come in 2028 and it will take atleast 4-5 years to raise 2 squadrons of it optimistically. By that time Chinese will have 2000+ fleet of combat aircraft atleast.

Upgrade the Mirages which completed its life won't be a good decision, Also we will again push our pilot to use second-hand aircrafts...NO, Please stop playing with the life of our pilots. Wait for LCA MK2 (AUG 2022) hope we will complete it and give it to the private player ...or Buy a few new Rafale

Yeah, if Tejas is equivalent to mirage 2005 , then we buy more Mk1A itself.

If MWF gets ready, much better.

It's reference to 21 Mig-29 UPG purchase from Russia. There is no confirmation. Also, no update on more rafales.

Dassault secures 14-year Mirage 2000 maintenance deal for French air force


So France is planning to use Mirage 2000 till 2036 at least and here a few members are contemplating replacement of Mirage 2k after 2030.

Now wonder if French Air force is considering MLU with AESA radar and spectra EW.....
