After replacing the 50+ HS 748s, they can also replace the 100+ An-32s. With the other wings and civilian orders combined, the numbers can easily cross 200 for India alone. Furthermore you can add orders for exports. It's excellent for regional connectivity in India for cargo flights.

I think so.

What's the application? Pls consider that. This isn't your regular transportation aircraft. If at all,that'd be it's secondary function. This would have made sense were the C-295s a replacement for the An-32s. Clearly that isn't the case here.

Its replacing roles of both Avro and partially An-32. The projected requirement for MTA class is around ~45 meaning it will not be one to one replacement. Thus a modern turboprop transporter is a must-have.

Pls note my objections to this is based on the current financial & general situation in a post Covid world not otherwise.

Because we spend too much time and effort to get here. It took us a decade from the initial RFI to this near conclusion. If we cancel the tender based on a temporary situation we will have to go through the same whole process again. Also, Its only 10-15% of the contact we are paying this year. This FY its already budgeted because we were postponing this for the last few.

The M777 saga comes to mind & so does the Rafale saga, first off the bat.

Its replacing roles of both Avro and partially An-32. The projected requirement for MTA class is around ~45 meaning it will not be one to one replacement. Thus a modern turboprop transporter is a must-have.

The An-32 also served to move personnel which was & is the primary function of the Avros except that the Avros functioned to move VIP personnel mostly. That's what the C-295 will do when you're referring to taking up the An-32 role.Plus there's the RTA version of the SARAS with a similar carrying capacity on the drawing board . Sounds like fun duplicating efforts & projects in supporting platforms.

Because we spend too much time and effort to get here. It took us a decade from the initial RFI to this near conclusion. If we cancel the tender based on a temporary situation we will have to go through the same whole process again. Also, Its only 10-15 of the contact we are paying this year. L1 was declared in Q1 2015. Its now 6th year.

Rafale and M777 tender were canceled. M777 was cleared under FMS route.

Yes, this can fill both aircraft's roles with better performance.

The original An-32 replacement was the Indo-Russian MTA. But now it's dead. So the C-295 is the only immediately available alternative before a proper program can begin to replace the role of the An-32.
