Sukhoi Su-30MKI

Some chatter going on about how the Su-30s sent to Spain for the recent exercise are equipped with SDRs & SATCOMs. Looking at the pics closely, one can see the antennae just ahead of the nose wheel well & also in the spine of the aircraft:

Some other photos from the recent past didn't have these antennae:

Can you please elaborate Gautam. How much does this improves Su-30 for us. Impact on its role and anything else.

I will ofcourse google, read some papers.. but would love to get a quick pov of an expert like you. Thank you

UPG. configuration.
What're the timelines here ? Proposal for the Super Sukhoi upgrades to CCS has either not been put up by IAF / MoD or has not been sanctioned. Development & certification timelines expected to last 8 years due to be completed by 2032-33 post which upgradation of 80 nos MKI is expected to take another 8 years.

Moreover if MKI facilities in Nashik are to be used as per some reports where are we going to assemble these MKIs ? Part of the production line has been repurposed to assemble the LCA & part of qtys of the HTT-40 are to be assembled there.

Assuming SDR & SATCOMs have indeed been added, the Su-30s will have improved data security, improved jamming resistance, improved situational awareness. Most importantly, the Su-30s will have co-operative engagement capability.

This is also the 1st concrete step towards MUMT capability.

Imo, SDR is likely to have been fitted. MK1A airframes have got them too. Otoh, a dorsal SATCOM antenna would ideally have to be a patch antenna?

Here's the conformal Satcom antenna on the SH B3 for reference.

Yeah there is a running tender scope for such work wrt SDR IRST etc for Mk2 and Mk1a. Quite sure Mk1a batch is gradually getting the rollout. When, where and how many are just specifics as suited per use case and scheduling. Sometimes IAF give a specific timeline, for new jets HAL is supposed to do that, this schedule also falls apart many times due to vendor or unavailability issues. Right now ADA HAL are probably in charge to clear the same with airworthiness clearance.
Su30 batches since these are spread across the country and in operational use, so rollout is as suited to work schedule. HAL capacity to upgrade is also low, prob like 15-20 jets per year (not sure but no is low).

Indian Air Force displays SU-30MKI with BrahMos supersonic cruise missile and Rafale with SCALP cruise missile during the flying display over Brahmaputra River at Guwahati.

It is hard to judge size given different distance and other effect issues , but does that scalp look quite large in size given its like ~ 5m length while the Brahmos is almost 8 - 8.5 meter in size?

177S offered to us is literally a 5th gen engine based on AL-31FP architecture. Kunal is completely wrong here. Its SFC and SEP is far far better than even 117 that is on Su-57S, forget about 117S that is on Su-35S.

Russians have offered us full IP(know how & know why) of this engine and it shall be used in MKI upgrade along with even our Su-57I variants(though not a lock at the moment).

PS: Both GOI & IAF have realized that Rafale and F-35 can't fight PLAAF and AMCA won't be combat ready before 2040. So our only hope of gaining parity against PLAAF is Su-57. Thus all parties involved have been asked not to reveal anything in public. Whatever written or heard is just calculated or propaganda leaks. Real deal is being monitored right from the top;)

PS2: George N might have been a former Sukhoi employee but he knows nothing about the current talks between India and Russia regarding Su-57.

if this is true then forget about the su57 lol @Rajput Lion, the IAF is not going to settle for a 5- fighter especially if it becomes clear that russia doesnt really trust india in anyway. Maybe the putin visit changes things but lol.
India is far far important to Russia than any country of the world(and vice-versa). Stop believing everything you read on the internet.

sorry but i simply trust someone who has worked on the su57 program more than i trust some guy on an internet forum. looks like any su57 deal with the current offer is a no show unless it changes.

also china is a lot more important to russia than india ever was and ever will be
