Malaysian tender for Light Combat Aircraft

Looks like the Malaysians chose the politically safest option.

LCA Tejas was a non starter anyway

Unless we replace Israeli components , no Muslim country will buy it

Argentina will not buy it because
Of American Engine and Ejection seats

At least we can say that LCA Tejas emerged favourably in comparison to the Specifications of JF 17 , that was the whole plan anyway

The Israeli components are present in both Aircrafts at similar levels.

The deciding factor in my opinion was that if two systems are similar, more or less , but one system has multiple export markets already, while another is still not in Serial Production (remember, this tender was about twin seaters, and the twin seaters of Tejas are not of SP as of now. ). Then issues like non certification of the canon, lack of air to ground missiles.... These small things together will tilt the favour in Korean option.

The Korean jet has more Israeli components.

Our MK 1A is waiting for its first test flight

There after there will be flight
Tests for 2 years

So Even if MK 1A is selected
It cannot meet the Timelines of the Customer

Only India's MOD gives No importance to the Concept of
Timelines and Deadlines

It will comfortably meet Malaysia's schedule. They are only selecting the jet this year, a contract signature will take time.

KA21 is inferior to even LCA mk1 let alone LCA mk1a.
LCA mk1a is almost ready with first flight expected due in June 2022.

Malaysia chose to buy KA21 as it is safe politically...

No worries 18 samples in the production slot means that much delay / cancellation in Mk2.

Isn't the mk1A supposed to fly next month is a MK1 Converted not a de novo mk1A.

It's more than that. LM is a trusted supplier and the package includes sniper pods while the tejas has the litening. On top of that the engine used on the fa-50 is closer to their older f-18 hornets. The tejas engine is superior with a higher thrust. The fa-50 will be cheaper to maintain too. We all know how Hal's post sales spares and repairs service is not that good compared to what LM offers. Plus compatibility with the f-18 weapons. While the fa-50 is inferiro in bvr to the tejas it's mostly superior in a2g due to kepd 350, cbu 105 and also other american munition integration.
Plus tejas is too good to be exported to a future adversary like Malaysia.

India has offered MRO facility to Malaysia along with spares and maintenance of Malaysian Sukhois.

This is a done deal now as no other country can service Russian fighters due to caatsa and other sanction as no one will be able to deal with Russia but India produces most of the spare for su30mki in India at HAL facilities and has access to Russian origin spares too. So no one can compete with India now.. 😊😊

All Russian customers are potential Indian LCA customers due to the sanctions. :p

Even Egypt is a major contender. There's also Vietnam and Algeria.

The Mig-29 in particular has a lot of customers.

Philippines seems to selected down to F16 & Grippen.

It's 'cause the Philippines Air Force is also called "PAF". :p

In all seriousness, they have budgetry issues, so LCA still comes with a price advantage. Alternatively they can just buy more F/A-50 since they already operate 12 of them.

But at the same time India will complain less compared to the US and SoKo if the Pinoys use their new jet to bomb their own civilians.

Tejas never stood a chance there. And it's always between 2nd hand gripens or F16s. Been so, since atleast 2019. Nothing concrete comes out.

Logical thing is to go for 12 more FA50. Then few years down the line, start looking for maybe Tranche 1 Typhoons.
