Chinese Wuhan Virus Thread

What about big corporations who have billions at stake? China is both a big manufacturer and consumer.
No issue is not that. Issue is loss of soft power. China wanted to become a respected world power like USA is. It has antagonized a hell lot of western hemisphere.

They will remain a back office and factory of the world.

Compare and contrast with postwar Japan. They became a major manufacturing power and then a soft power. Chinese have done one right, manufacturing part but have completely lost the second part. Problem for them is that they don't appreciate the second part well enough even though they desire it.

Think in this way, when I buy a Toyota I trust its relibility. No Chinese brand will easily get that now. Made in China will be a pejorative for long time to come. Will you buy a Japanese car for your family? YES! A Chinese one? Hell No!

There is the difference. They sacrificed their long term gain in moving up the value chain for petty small time gains. Typical Chinese.

China will Sell Millions of Smartphones at Throw away price to change and improve their image with The PUBLIC in the West

China will Sell Millions of Smartphones at Throw away price to change and improve their image with The PUBLIC in the West
Trouble is "Throw away price". There is only this much you can fall. There is Apple, which rules the roost. They make money with a tech which is one generation old. Now China will have to keep on playing the same old "Buy Cheap, Sell Cheap, Cheap Cheap Cheap" game for long time. That my friend is ultimately a losing strategy. They had been playing it for long time and wanted to move up. I bet there are going to be much harder to be a Chinese Apple now. Or Chinese version of Toyota. They have marked themselves as a "The Shady folks". You can do backroom deal with shady folks but you cann't put them in front.

Lastly, any brand which associates with China will suffer a loss of brand value. Remember Thinkpad -> Lenovo? Thinkpad in 90s was a BIG name in reliabilty. It went down a bit with Lenovo but it was still doing okay. Now, it will be much harder for them to compete against likes of Dell or HP, because "China".

Remember, Xi's "dream"? "Made In China" goal? Thats gone. For long time.

India should do two things. One is to ramp up production of this drug MASSIVELY
Agreed. In fact, 4 out of 6 of our major drug makers have massive production capacity for this drug, and it appears they are ramping up production. GoI has recently banned its exports. The British media reported it, I rushed over to the comment section to read the "We give them billions of dollars in aid" kind of comments. Me an my cheap thrills.:ROFLMAO:
send some really really really well tested ones, even in token amounts to as many countries as it can. Just make it sure that the ones it sends are quality ones. Not Sarkaari ones. It will go a long way.
Why ? If we do this how will I get my share of the typical impotent sneer from the Brits ?

Not brits. There are many other nations. Think Malaysia for instance.... One less vote for Pakistan will be fun. There are many things that can be done.

BTW China used to do this as well..

Palm oil is enough leverage for the Malaysians. The new govt. in Malaysia seems to want to draw down from their previous position, they also want us to remove the import ban of their palm oil. One less vote for Pakistan in the FATF can be leveraged from here. Why export meds ? Good will ? I don't see the point here.

Do what ? Leverage meds supply for political/economic favours ? Dis-regarding the ethical aspects of doing this during a pandemic, still I don't see a point.

Sometimes you use carrots, sometimes stick. Pay offs are often asymmetric.

No, diplomacy of tokens and gimicks like that.

I thought the India-ASEAN FTA was the carrot and palm oil import ban was the stick. I don't see either of those two go away anytime soon.

Backfiring massively right now with the faulty virus test equipment and all that. We can try that assuming we have enough stocks for our own needs.

Both can be carrots. They operate at two different levels. One is monetary, other is a bit more close to the people.

A factor can produce 200K to 300K pills a day. Just providing 1 day worth of yield may go a long way. BTW, my assumption and "condition" was the : "IF we can do it with high quality". Chinese ambition was way bigger, this is much smaller compared to what they were trying to attempt.
