Chinese Wuhan Virus Thread

I donated through my Credit card. But neither I see that in my transaction history nor I got any mail/message for failed transaction. Let me know if figure out the right way to donate from outside India.
I can confirm mine is not working either. Need to find an alternative.

I used the 15 lakhs I got after demo to contribute to this fund. It is in safe hands for harder times.
I have funds in India but all in fixed deposits and bonds as I am not in India. I have an old saving account with just few thousands. That account requires me to reactivate it by visiting a branch... I will first get it reactivated on phone or something and then do a wire transfer into that account and then I will be able to donate money.

When you can't afford kids, wife, family why to marry and produce kids and then in the end increase population to run on roads during lock down.

Saalo, bache paida karo tum, population badao tum, shadi ke mazey luto tum, haye tauba haye tauba karo tum, ek paisa na kamao tum..
aur baad mein tumhare pait bharey screambowl jaise log.

Sharab piyo tum, BP hue tumhe, sugar hue tumhe, aur ilaaj ka paisa de screambowl.

Ghanta bc!! Not going to donate single money for them. Akal hogi khud sudhrenge population reduce karenge. Aney do virus!

I get the feeling the same forces which catapulted Trump overnight to the White House will be responsible for taking him out of it. Overnight. What's the force, you ask? Chance, blind chance.
He's proved himself spectacularly incompetent & bungled big time. It's still not too late to arrest the casualties & stem the tide from becoming a total disaster but I'm afraid the damage's done.

Dunno who this jollett guy is, was he a trump supporter before or something?

So far seems split on partisan lines as expected:

March 22-25, 2020 Post-ABC poll crosstabs

He polls better on coronavirus crisis response than overall presidency, which means he can actually harness support from that (esp say independents) if the effort continues as vigorously....since I would imagine most of the difference in bump comes from previous non-support ppl.

I think there are certain issues here which go far far beyond the sample size of opinion polls. We've seen how effective opinion polls are in India. Ditto for the US too. Al Jazeera reports Dr Fauci having declared that the US is looking at 1-2 lakh casualties in the next 3-4 months.

Authorities are still debating a total lockdown across the US. Trump wants business as usual to resume by Easter . How do you reconcile alll this with a falling stock market, a failing economy, low demand, job losses, palpable fear among the ordinary American, widespread hospitalization & casualties plus expenditure, shortage of medicine, medical equipment, facilities, trained medical personnel, etc in an election year.

I'm sorry, but I don't see any quick fix solutions to this & this in an election year is nothing short of disastrous for an incumbent president. The Democrats don't have to do anything just highlight Trump's failures & incompetence. I mean from here on, it's an election the Democrats would have to lose for Trump to win.

I have no dog in this fight but from India's PoV, Trump was royally screwing the Chinese. Were he to return to power, he'd definitely have them on the mat & what's more the world would be behind him. I don't think Biden would be half as severe on the Chinese as Trump was & I'm being charitable to Biden, knowing how the Democrats since Clinton have bailed out the Chinese from hot spots repeatedly .

I think you underestimate the support he has with his base. Quite a few of my colleagues are avid Trump supporters and unconditionally support him. It's easy to conclude that economic slow down is unavoidable when nobody is working, and there is a lot of confidence for restarting the economy after the pseudo-quarantines end. There is a belief that the economy is only stalling because of the shut downs and once everything passes, their days will go back to normal. There is a lot of anger at big corporations. A common argument is that people are expected to have 3 months paycheck on hand for emergencies, but corporations can't go one week without a bailout yet get the same/better rights.

Shortages and shortcomings will be overlooked by conservatives here due to how poorly other developed nations handled the situation plus a they will put a lot of focus on China's actions/inactions during the initial outbreak. I personally think this is a weak argument because most Western nations had all of February to "brace for impact" but failed to do so. This was despite seeing the severity in China/SK and knowing that people likely transmitted the disease globally during Jan1-CNY travels - that total containment was likely no longer possible and preparation was necessary.

To me it seems if Trump can get the economy to have a healthy pulse by November, and this disease doesn't have a massive death toll, all else will be forgiven from his base. Despite all the gaffes over the years, Trump's approval rating has been very consistent

Whether this translates to a Trump victory in November is a totally different question. Biden is Trump's presumptive opponent in November, and he is really just the anti-Trump vote. His main appeal is that he is a competent & bland statesman. He won't rock the boat. It's his job to motivate enough independents to vote for him which will be greatly influenced by how this virus is handled and how far left he goes in order to appeal to progressives/youth.
