Data Patterns expects production orders for Brahmos Seekers after successful flight tests

Data Patterns’ products already power the ground-based and mobile-based launches of the Brahmos missile, and now it will also supply the seekers for the missile, which is said to have a played a key role in the recent Operation Sindoor

Data Patterns, a fully integrated defense and aerospace electronics solution provider, on Monday said that the company is seeing more enquiries come in from the armed forces and is also well poised to receive orders for their Brahmos ‘seekers’ after a successful missile test recently.

“We are also being asked to deliver orders at the earliest,” Data Patterns founder and chairman Srinivasagopalan Rangarajan, told businessline. ”Just 3-4 weeks ago, our seekers were flight-tested in Brahmos as part of missile trials by DRDO and it was text book performance. We expect the orders for the additional Brahmos seeker units to come in soon,” he said. In missile systems, a seeker is a crucial component that detects and tracks the target.

Data Patterns’ products already power the ground-based and mobile-based launches of the Brahmos missile, and now it will also supply the seekers for the missile, which is said to have played a key role in the recent Operation Sindoor.

“The atmosphere is conducive for more orders from our armed forces but the emergency procurement to shore up inventory may not benefit Indian companies alone and will also lead to a rise in imports in the short term,” Rangarajan adds.

Data Patterns currently supplies products such as precision approach radars, electronic suites for aircraft, and communication systems for land, air and satellites use, for our defence forces.

As for new products, Rangarajan said they have invested more than ₹100 crore on new product development across segments, and also have plans for around ₹150 crore in capex for ramping up production infra over next two years to execute orders. The demand potential looks high in products such a Fire Control Radars, X-Band Radars and smaller Radars for UAVs, and RF and IR Seekers for Missiles and others, he said.

Order book

Order book as of March 31, 2025 is ₹730 crore and he expects that the company will execute 70-80 per cent of this in FY26. He anticipates to add ₹1,000-1,500 crore worth of new orders in the current fiscal. FY26 revenue is anticipated to grow by 20-25 per cent, Rangarajan adds.

The company reported a robust 36 per cent revenue growth in FY25 with growth across product lines of radars, electronics warfare, communication systems, avionics, and others. Data Patterns’ exports revenue was roughly 15 per cent of its FY25 revenue, and Rangarajan is also bullish on the export potential. “We are currently talking to an international partner for Radars development and when this materialises, it will further give a boost to exports,” he said.

Old seeker data was leaked to Pakistan..

Welcome upgrade..
What would be the method ? it got excellent ECCM, resistant to all kind of target jamming. Even if you drop some EMP bomb nearby it would not be affected. Big reason why this is primary shore based antiship even today for the Rus.
NG is also expected to be available in a 533mm tube-launched version. That's intended to arm SSKs while the SSNs will probably be able to take the legacy version. We've only had one sub-surface (pontoon) test of the legacy Brahmos so far iirc.
New SSN batch that is cleared recently are likely to be with VLS , there are some hint of it, and also likely to have the new brahmos capable VLS. Actually won't matter much since for the submarine use they will customise it anyway. I think weight reduction method has happened to a good measure.

I'd say sub launch was always the primary design driver for the NG. The IN clearly wanted a compact weapon sized for 533mm tubes after Russian proposals for VLS-equipped Amur-1650 SSK failed to impress. The IAF seems perfectly happy with the 2.5t Brahmos-A though I'm sure it appreciates the ability to fit more ac types in its fleet with the lighter NG.

Development of longer range BrahMos missile as well as sleeker BrahMos-NG variant on track

BrahMos missile development includes new air-launched version and range extension, enhancing India's defense capabilities significantly.

The development of a new, compact air launched version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, the BrahMos-NG (Next Generation), is at an advanced stage, while the range extension of the original BrahMos, much heavier than the air launched one, to 800 km is progressing well, defence sources said. The BrahMos air launched version was employed by the Indian Air Force (IAF) to devastating effect in the recent confrontation with Pakistan to strike that country’s air bases.

The range of BrahMos was originally capped at 290 km, in line with the limitations of the Missile Technology Control Regime. However, since India joined the grouping in June 2016, the range was extended to 450 km, and work to extend it to 800 km is underway. The maiden trial has been conducted and more trials will be undertaken, two officials independently confirmed.

“BrahMos-NG is a sleeker air launched missile than the current variant, and is in advanced stages of development. It should be ready for flight testing in a year or so,” a defence official said, adding it would be ready for production and induction in one to two years after that.

The air launched version is lighter than the land and ship variants, and is currently mounted on the Sukhoi Su-30MKIs. Being much lighter, the BrahMos-NG can be mounted on other fighters, including the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas.

In January 2020, the IAF inducted the 222 ‘Tiger Sharks’ squadron consisting of modified Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jets in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, armed with air launched BrahMos missiles. Of the 272 Su-30MKI contracted by the IAF, 40 were initially modified to carry the air launched BrahMos.

The BrahMos-NG will weigh 1.33 tonnes, about half the weight of the current air launched missile at 2.65 tonnes. With this, a Su-30MKI will be able to carry up to four BrahMos-NG missiles, while the LCA will be able to carry two missiles, as reported by The Hindu earlier. According to the IAF, the air launched BrahMos is a 2.5 tonne supersonic air to surface cruise missile with a range of more than 400 km and a maximum speed of 2.8 Mach.

During the strikes by the Indian forces on Pakistani military targets from May 7-10, the IAF fired the air launched BrahMos from Su-30MKI jets for precision hits on air bases, and they could not be intercepted by Pakistan’s Chinese origin air defence systems.

Former Air Chief Marshal (ACM) V. R. Chaudhari has stated in the past that the forthcoming BrahMos-NG would be the IAF’s “primary deterrent weapon”. The ACM had said in 2023 that as the standoff unfolded on the northern borders in 2020, they had realised it could be used very effectively for land attacks. The IAF has since equipped more squadrons with Su-30MKI aircraft modified to launch BrahMos missiles.

BrahMos is a joint venture between India and Russia, named after the Brahmaputra and Moskva rivers, inducted in 2005 in an anti-ship variant. The missile is capable of being launched from land, sea, sub-sea, and air against surface and sea-based targets.

Oh damn he's from my state Karnataka 😍😍😍
He only took over at Brahmos just a few months ago so many people do not know but he was the project director of Kusha/XRSAM for over 7-8 years to my knowledge, possibly more. I know from around 2017 or so. Just like Dr Prahlada Rama Rao, Dr Chandramouli for Akash , the late Dr RK Agarwal for Agni , he is also the maker of this desi S-400 sort of.

RK Aggarwal was ready for MIRV test in 2004 but chtiya babus in MoD and reluctant politicians meant we had to wait until 2024 to see it happen.

This is probably a little overstated , the daisy 2 motor was not properly proven at that time. Would have been risky if they had gone with it based on ground test results. Also very limited mirv compared to range. Idea was entirely pak centric.

Ching chongs had MIRV in 1980s. By 2004 we would have had a decent pak centric one. Still should have tested imo.

BrahMos NG to be mated with MiG-29, Mirage 2000 & Tejas.
Currently BrahMos-A can be carried only by Su-30 MKI.
42 a/c are known to be modified with 216 2.5 ton BrahMos-A missiles procured.

When will Brahmos NG will come? I think they are tested secretly.
