hmmm werent there talks about the AMCA mk1 being a 5.5 Gen and the AMCA mk2 being a 6th gen? or was it some randomn ahh rumorShort term, yes.
Long term, NO. Only AMCA can't handle era of 6gen.![]()

hmm so how would that compare to a true 6th gen like the j36 or the j50?Amca mk2 being 5.5 gen
Naval terminology i heard on another forum will probably help here.hmm so how would that compare to a true 6th gen like the j36 or the j50?
AMCA mk-2 will only be ready for production in the mid 2040s, by then both China and the USA will have their 5.5-6th gen fighters in the air, the mid 2040s target is in itself an optimistic timeline, it is the same story as the Tejas mk2, being an upgraded version of its predecessor. Though we can hope that things will be better by then, and the excessive delays will be avoided.Amca mk2 being 5.5 gen
Tejas mk2 is an entirely new jet by now.is the same story as the Tejas mk2, being an upgraded version of its predecessor
The way our IADS is progressing, even Chinese 6th gen ELO jets would find it literally impossible to penetrate. Hidden behind our IADS bubble, AMCA is gonna be a Chinese 6th gen slayer. 5.5 gen terminology is basically for AI optimization and MUM-T.AMCA mk-2 will only be ready for production in the mid 2040s, by then both China and the USA will have their 5.5-6th gen fighters in the air, the mid 2040s target is in itself an optimistic timeline, it is the same story as the Tejas mk2, being an upgraded version of its predecessor. i would hesitate to make such blanket declarations but having a proper Photonic radar with the ability to guide missiles would certainly help and thats seems like the path DRDO is taking instead of making an operational 6th genThe way our IADS is progressing, even Chinese 6th gen ELO jets would find it literally impossible to penetrate. could india join the GCAP for 6th gen jets in case its really needed? Is it even remotely feasable(ofc i dont expect india to get 100% tot but even 50% tot for 6th Gen tech and local spare parts and basic manufacture should help with india's ambitions).Naval terminology i heard on another forum will probably help here.
View amca mk2/ upgraded f35/ upgraded j35/upgraded J20 as frigates, from medium to large frigates.
J50 as a large destroyer.
F47 as same, a large destroyer.
UK-japan-italy's gcap as same.
And j36 as cruiser.
Bigger jets:- more electrical power->more larger and more powerful avionics.
More range, endurance etc.
Along with 6th having more stealthier design than 5thgen, specifically in bands like vhf,L band etc.
Don't take it too seriously, its just to get somewhat of a gist of things.
difference between fifth and sixth generation fighters is relatively minimal compared to the significant leap that occurred between fourth and fifth generation aircraft......for example, the B-2 Spirit, despite being 37 years old, remains more stealthy than many modern fifth generation fighters....... Most of the so called sixth generation fighters currently in development still follow the same fundamental stealth shaping principles that is used in B-2, with improvements mainly in advanced electronics, sensors, and networking capabilities.........this highlights a broader issue in aviation technology........certain fields, particularly stealth, are approaching a point of saturation, where advancements are more incremental than revolutionary.AMCA mk-2 will only be ready for production in the mid 2040s, by then both China and the USA will have their 5.5-6th gen fighters in the air, the mid 2040s target is in itself an optimistic timeline, it is the same story as the Tejas mk2, being an upgraded version of its predecessor. sort of similar to the 3rd gen vs 4th gen gap?difference between fifth and sixth generation fighters is relatively minimal compared to the significant leap that occurred between fourth and fifth generation aircraft......for example, the B-2 Spirit, despite being 37 years old, remains more stealthy than many modern fifth generation fighters....... Yeah.sort of similar to the 3rd gen vs 4th gen gap?
AFAIK, there is no official statement on clear difference b/w AMCA Mk1 & Mk2.hmmm werent there talks about the AMCA mk1 being a 5.5 Gen and the AMCA mk2 being a 6th gen? or was it some randomn ahh rumor
Same way adversaries can think & prepare, especially when mostly ahead of us.The way our IADS is progressing, even Chinese 6th gen ELO jets would find it literally impossible to penetrate. Current amca is 27 tons mtow.AFAIK, there is no official statement on clear difference b/w AMCA Mk1 & Mk2.
Its major MLU can be called Mk2 perhaps.
But for true 6gen needs - VCE, more fuel, load, sensors, thrust, computing, networking, electricity, DEW, a medium jet may not suffice.
So current AMCA empty 12 tons + 6.5 tons fuel + 1.5 tons capacity IWB which can house 6x AAMs = 20 tons gross, needs upgrade -
6x LR-AAMs like Meteor/Astr-3 + better/heavier engines + 4x DEW apertures + 4 CCMs in SWB + 8 tons fuel = say 25 tons gross.
ideally, wet T/STOW = at least 1.1 like F-22, so 2x135 wet KN engine needed.
That's 6gen AMCA Mk2 but it might enter heavy category & become AHCA.
And 1 engine 6gen jet then a VCE of 270 KN wet & 5 tons more than F-35.
This is my view, multiple jets globally, so others can have their views.
> Empty weight.C
Current amca is 27 tons mtow.
Of course, latest gen is supposed to slay the previous gen in a head-to-head fight. But what I am saying is that, hidden behind our IADS bubble, AMCA(which is going to be very very stealthy); is going to thwart and even slay Chinese 6th gen's penetrating attacks. It's no different from MKI/Rafale/MK2 fighting against J-20 using our A2/AD bubble.Same way adversaries can think & prepare, especially when mostly ahead of us.
If 5gen slays 6gen then then 6gen is 4gen. Higher gen is supposed to slay previous gen.
We don't know yet if J-36, J-50 & the 3rd jet are just TDs or final design.
Some say that these jets made USA to re-design NGAD into F-47.
And now China may redesign their jets as per whatever they/world know about F-47.
Supercomputing + AI + Espionage = today's rapid R&D.
Anyways, everybody pampers their country's products & projects but IMO we should avoid mixing sentiments with technology.
