Well, I have no hopes from the current dispensation in MoD to be competent enough to recognize the Taiwanese opportunity and act in time to facilitate this purchase. Would be pleasantly surprised if proven wrong. (now if the reclining Buddha statue was on sale, it would be another story)

M2000 is a nice fighter, but do you think it's reasonable to upgrade it another time? As an Indian (I'm not), i would prefer to invest in a newer platform. Tejas 2 ?
Point taken. But we're retiring squadrons pretty rapidly with not much idea when the substitutes will come by. These , if selected, are to make up those numbers.

- How would Saab, MiG, Boeing or LM upgrade these birds to the new Indian standard? Of the MMRCA 2 competitors, only Dassault can do that.
am not sure how much india can update on their own from the previous mirage up-gradation contract .

What I heard made me doubt it. Thales apparently had to make a study to check if the shipping containers they used to send their upgrade kits to HAL could also serve for long-term storage because HAL is seriously behind schedule and so the sensitive electronic parts may get to wait for years in their box in a hangar.
Agreed on point 1, but re: point 2 - isn't it kind of an open secret that this MMRCA tender #2 is more for show than an actual process just to make it absolutely clear that there's nothing shady going on?
At one point the thinking was that the US might manage to foist F-16's on India, and the Gvt seemed favorably inclined as part of some bigger, strategic give & take. But that seems scuttled; and with 36 Rafales arriving + SC eventually, inevitably clearing the acquisition of any wrongdoing + need for more Rafales in IAF AND Navy (potential for economies of scale w/ numbers and heavy Indian customization). I just don't see how any plane other than the Rafale can win - unless India were to change Governments next year, which doesn't seem likely.
Our squadrons number is too less. Even after we get all Mk1A and 2 squadrons of Rafale, we will still have only 33 squadrons in 2027.
With 3 squadrons of Taiwanese M-2000 and 2 more squadrons of Rafale, we will at least hit 38 squadrons by 2027.

MCA = LCA Mk2. It's now an MMRCA.
Anyway, we are not going to get the M-2000s before Taiwan gets their new F-16s. We will have to wait a few years, by which time the MCA's avionics will be ready. So we buy the M-2000s now, start receiving them by 2023 or so, and then upgrade them all starting in 2027 or so, maybe even 2030.
As for Mk1A, the configuration was finalised a year ago. Even the contract was ready for signature in July. The high price is why it's fallen into controversy.
MKI is in a different class. Anyway, the link you posted killed this option for us.
If Taiwan plans to upgrade the M-2000s, then they will not sell the jets. But I still hope there is a chance.
