This will be another Rafale vs Eurofighter competition then and Rafale will win EASILY.

F-18,F-16 and Gripen unable to offer TOT, MiG-35 is too basic. Eurofighter just isn’t an option

Don’t understand what the point is in revisiting this circus, it only adds time and makes Indian procurement system look even more useless.

ONLY justifiable reason would’ve been if they had pooled IAF and IN fighter requirements but they haven’t even done that
Look closely at mission loads, whole package parameters and importantly the radar and technology GaN.

tailor-made to suit what IAF wants .. wonder why waste time when it can be done naturally.

Procedures favoured over common sense.

This govt wants to get a major win for “Make in India”.

If this US administration could make us sign COMCASA and their parliament approval to share critical tech (Longshot), F-16 is still a possibility.

Saab could be able to provide some crucial tech which no one else can to its full extent. Like GaN AESA, IRST,EW,SATCOM etc. Performance may come shot in terms of loiter time and high altitude.

F-18 depends on IN's appetite for their requirement. (But again need all the approvals like F-16)

Its better for EF and Mig to pass this. :cautious: Unnecessary paid articles will be saved.

Its simply impossible for EF to offer similar tech transfer as Dassault and be cheaper.

More than that, it's the version which IAF wants. The one which it believes is superior to present PAKFA program.

All for that quest

From Vishnu som:

2. all weather multi-role combat aircraft which can be used for the following roles:-
(a) Air Superiority
(b) Air Defence
(c) Air to Surface Operations
(d) Reconnaissance
(e) Maritime
(f) EW missions, Buddy Refuelling etc.
3. Vendors are to define aspect and relevant radar frequency bands for calculation of Radar Cross Section as follows:
(i) Clean configuration.
(ii) Air to surface strike (2 PGMs+1 Designator Pod+2 BVRs +2xA4Ms + Ext Fuel)
(iii) Air to Air configurations (4 BVRs+2 A4Ms+Ext Fuel
4. Can the aircraft fly in excess of 10 hr with Air to Air Refuelling (AAR)? How many AAR engagements would be required to accomplish this duration of flight? Specify flight conditions.
EMP hardening.. secondary strategic role... rules out almost all planes...
cough cough not a certain plane already in order for IAF....

It's the indian version of the Belgian RFI .... favouring the F35.
In fact this RFI hurts any chance for F-35 in India. Is US going to agree to local production of F-35? No. Are they going to agree on TOT for engines and radar? No.

F-35 doesn’t even have a two seat version!

Final nail in the coffin

US isn’t going to pass any special legislation for TOT for a non-NATO nation, especially not India. US is increasingly isolationist and POTUS is ramping UP this rhetoric as we speak.

It’s politically unfeasible for F-16 or F-18 to be made in India thereby depriving Americans of jobs.

As I have said before- Make in India is the antithesis of America First.

Americans will then do their best to sabotage the Gripen’s chances.

The only true independent option that can actually offer genuine TOT and that already has a running strategic relationship with India is FRANCE.

17. Can the aircraft MPDS (Mission Planning and Debriefing System) system be integrated with existing unified mission planning system of IAF? Specify possibility of providing ICD and requirements for integration.

I wonder who is already working WITH the IAF to make exactly this possible.

It’s almost a joke at this point to ignore the position that DA are in, they are in the door, they are making relationships with IAF, they are learning EXACTLY how they do things and what they want. To assume that this will have no advantage for them would be to deny all common sense.

4 BVR + 2 WVR missiles => F16 is out.
SH18 and F35 are to be america made (dixit uncle Donald)
Gripen have a US engine.... bad luck.
IAF don't want russian plane this time.

=> In fact a new Rafale vs Eurofighter combat.
Yup and how can Eurofighter compete on price with Rafale if both pass the cut (again)?

They probably wanted to avoid political controversy and hence opted for safe but inefficient procedure. ☹️
