Chinese Wuhan Virus Thread

We have Dainik Jagaran, Amar Ujala and Dainik Bhaskar in our rural UP. Navbharat times is not printed there, at least not in varanasi that I am aware of. In Mumbai though north Indians prefer Navbharat times.
I have seen Lucknow or may be Kanpur edition.

Translating for the sake of non-Hindi readers/speakers.

"Near Ganga bank around 1140 KM, 2000+ dead bodies found burried"

"In Prayagraj (Allahabad), due to wind and shifting sand, deadbodies were found burried"

"Did not have money for cremation, so burried the body"

"Dead bodies at every step, no a place to keep feet"

"In villages, in april every day 100s of people cremated."

All of these are stories coming out of UP. So much for "Covid has not reached rural india". We basically do not know what goes on in rural India in north India. I knew about these stories from regional Hindi new papers (Dainik Bhaskar, Amar Uzala, Navbharat times etc) from about 5 days or a week or so. I found it to be too morbid to put it here, just to make my point. Its beyond doubt that covid deaths are massively under reported (10x in Gujrat). Covid has struck in rural parts of UP.
Few pages back I had updated when my relative (who is a political person from ruling party himself) couldn't get any hospital bed in his own district Prayagraj, and had to shell out around 85k just for one bed and one single oxyzen cylinder in varanasi. That gave me some idea of hospital bed availability there. And then post discharge from COVID center I was told by my parents and neighbour on what had befallen on our native village. Two sister villages had lost upward of 50 residents in last two months which I haven't heard even during the darkest times (like when Indira Gandhi was murdered my mother tells me about.). I don't call my people back home for fearing bad news. But still bad news keeps chasing us. Four days back my other neighbour lady lost her mother abd lost her brother barely weeks back. My father, who is going to retire from central railway next year, lost his colleague friend three days back. Father is running staff however due to seniority he along with other couple of staff manage major outstation railway terminus staffs and platforms, inspection etc. His colleague came from outstation train duty and had cardiac arrest. He was diagnosed with COVID and died next day night. It was harrowing experience seeing he was so healthy. I used to manage messages till sometimes back as Papa wasn't using smartphone till then. Hence that staff used to chat with me. Senior AE, and all senior terminus staff were together in that moment, I could feel it. On the other hand my elder cousin is there on NE border special ops activities. He had his second dose in April end. Uncle and family also got doses long ago including 24 year old sister. He heads a military institution, don't ask personal details I will not share anything except some cropped images when I like to share. I have shared some in past. Military wise relatives are safe however as they received doses from Feb-march itself.

However I do also know that UP has upped the testing very much nowadays compared to Maharashtra nowadays. People are becoming complacent again here.

My own contacts have been senior government employees from my father's generation (1960s born). Most are having trouble finding hospital beds, doctors, oxygen, tests, medicines etc. Many are well connected and know the system like back of their hand but none can get any help. There has been deaths all over the place in all age groups from 10 to 100 years old. No one has been spared. No one remembers seeing this kind of blood bath ever. This is why I doubt that there is just 10-50% under reporting of covid deaths. Its much more than that. My uncle was in Indian Railways as SS. He too died of covid but it was during first wave. One family had multiple patients. My parents have been holed up in house from one and a half year. We don't know for how long. My elder sister is holed up in Pune... My younger one is in Delhi... barely able to avoid covid. I got my parents about 100 KG wheat, 100 KG rice, 100 KG dal in december, a massive assortment of onions, dried pulses nuggets, we have small kitchen garden for chillies, coriander, basil etc. They buy tomatoes etc from house top using a basket. Thankfully they keep sumptuous cash at home. They also learnt how to use amazon. They are getting all their dried spices via amazon.

One of my cousins had a weird charm of going to Haridwar in April ... to meet a girl and to wash his sins... WTF! He also got covid, though he recovered. My SIL still goes on with her dance classes... again WTF! She has been OK. Another one is studying in an IIT as a Phd student. She complaints about restrictions but I am happy she is safe.

One of my cousin got married yesterday in native village and I pray all remain okay. Mother had to undergo RT-PCR twice in one month for her eye laser surgery here in Santacruz. First time schedule got aborted on last day when I was found infected with COVID19. She is having word with my elder sister (cousin but she is actually elder than even my father!) who lives in Pune NIBM road. Brother in law used to be director of a steel firm, and still is, if I remember correctly back when I was teenager. There also situation is not good.

I lived in pune Magarpatta. The society I lived in has many deaths due to covid. No respite from this Chinese invention.

So if people are disciplined , Covid can be controlled
How do you think China kept itself from imploding... Good ol' discipline. Their all vaccines are bunk. If you don't follow your social credit will go down.. meaning you cannt get a job etc etc etc. Keeps those pesky protesters in check.
No cases of blood clotting in Covaxin ...(y)
Covaxin is dark horse of the vaccines.
No blood clotting and half way decent protection even against variants.

At the peak testing was more, now testing has also come down. Another side of same coin.

It's normal though. While testing has come down, it's actually become more focused rather than random. So better data is being generated now.

In Bangalore, testing was 1L per day, then fell to 60K per day at the start of May, and now it's 40K per day. So they are testing those who think have contracted Covid and have come for tests on their own. So instead of testing asymptomatic patients, they are only testing ones who have symptoms.

The reason why it's normal is, you need to conduct more tests in stage 2, but once community tranmission begins in stage 3, there is no need to test anymore. It's simply expected that it's begun spreading far and wide. And growth is instead recorded using symptomatic patients. Once the number of symptomatic patients start going down, then random testing can begin again.

Also, during community transmission, RAT replaces RT-PCR since infected patients with symptoms have greater chance of testing positive with minimal investment, whereas RT-PCR is used in case RAT shows negative for a patient with symptoms.

People have to put their faith in the experts running the show. They know what they are doing.

“Dr Ella has assured me that their facility at Malur in Kolar will be able to produce one crore vaccines by June- end. will be by two to three crores, and their target by August-end is four crore to five crore vaccine doses," Sudhakar said.

“Our priority is to get the vaccines to the people of our state at the earliest," Sudhakar said. He also said that Bharat Biotech’s facility in Hyderabad can produce one crore doses of COVID vaccine a month whereas the Karnataka unit will roll out four to five crore doses a month from August onwards.

In an official statement, the ministry said, "To augment the capacity of Indigenous production of Covaxin under the Mission, the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India in April, 2021 provided financial support as Grant to vaccine manufacturing facilities for enhanced production capacities, which is expected to reach more than 10 crore doses per month by September, 2021."

Amid multiple states reporting a shortage of COVID-19 vaccine, Serum Institute and Bharat Biotech have submitted to the Centre their production plan for the next four months, informing they can ramp it up to 10 crore and 7.8 crore doses respectively by August

Dr V Krishna Mohan, the Whole-time Director of Bharat Biotech, is learnt to have conveyed to the government that the production of Covaxin would be raised to 3.32 crore in July, and to 7.82 crore in August which will be maintained in September too.

Covishield would be ramped up to 10 crore doses each in August and will be maintained at that level in September

goodness gracious seems lakh has no value now , its all in crores just like our population. In fact grapevine has it that we will manufacture as much vaccines as we manufactured before, nothing more nothing less.

It is always reassuring when company's word byte says "under construction","all of them will be given to karnataka","all the directors"," discussions for procurement of vaccines from out of India "," negotiations are a complex undertaking","likely to be detrimental to these effort"," they can ramp it up to 10 crore ","technology transfer are complex process".

Number of tests being conducted is government call and I respect that. I also understand that more tests, more better as a general rule. I leave the testing regime to be decided by respective athorities as they are not only responsible but more knowledgeable on the subject.

In regards to community transmission, I read and understand just days back that India registered itself as country with no community transmission. There were only two other countries beside India opting for this option, one Italy another one I don't remember. I have that tweet in my gmail account probably. When I get back home in evening from work, I will try to find it. That will have more clarity and the right context in which it might have been said.

Obviously lockdown has some effect in controlling it by isolating the infected ppl in their location. But how long can it be enforced?
If the lockdown is removed it will start spreading again. We need an effective strategy which not only isolates but also prioritize the vaccine delivery to the most required.

I believe instead of age group, we should have prioritized based on vaccinating one in each family who would be going out for livelihood or have contact with outside world some thing like that . ppl who can work or live remotely should have been the last category. That would have slowed the spread and also ensured livelihood is not affected.

Corona virus New strain SARS-COV2 PRO MAX coming....😩😩

Expect New deadlier waves by 2022. Zindagi Jhand Bana Di Hai chinion ne.... 😡
There is no escape, we need to accept the reality that this is not going away. It will become a regular feature as mutations start happening and popping here and there. In fact this is a wake up call to introspect on health spending & infra. I bet next such pandemic wont be so kind to us.

It is really hard to believe that there are few cases in china, it is only that they might be doing good in urban areas and masking up issues in other areas which are not as visible to the media.

That sounds about right. AFAIK, community transmission is still only in urban areas of the country as of now, unless someone is hiding something. So Bangalore is definitely under community transmission. But the rest of India is still under stage 2. Lockdown has ensured rural areas have escaped from community transmission as of now. Dunno what will happen during the potential third wave though.

All of that stuff has already been funded. Bharat has transferred vac tech to three other PSUs, and even their grants have been paid by the govt for expansion, probably about 3.5-5 crore per month between them.

They are being incredibly efficient. So when the virus hits, they lockdown the city and then test everybody, and I mean everybody. The second time Wuhan was hit, they shut down the city and tested all 11.5 million citizens in just 3 days.

So you can see what happens next. All they have to do is quarantine the infected, and after 14 days most of the city is rid of the virus. Those who are severely infected are treated in hospitals, and that's it. They basically never let the stage 2 to happen, never mind stage 3.
