Chinese Wuhan Virus Thread

Why should districts that dont have Corona or have only few cases be still penalised
To prevent them from getting virus. Because people move, you don't know who is carrying virus who is not. Supplies come, daily needs essentials from other districts are risk enough.

Few infections detected too late in fully functional non infected district will finish it. Which district is fully capable of catering to own needs? Which district is enclosed into walls and gates to ensure no one moves in and out without proper certification that he is negative?

Isn't this common sense?

Pakistan seems to be testing more per million than us. Their restrictions are less than us and yet their cases and number of people recovered are more than us. Whats going on? Where are they getting most of their testing kits from? And what are the sources of our testing kits?

USFDA clears four Indian manufacturing plants in 10 days

MUMBAI: India’s leading drug companies have had their manufacturing facilities cleared in the last 10 days by the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA), a decision that comes at a time when supply-chain disruptions due to the Covid-19 pandemic are causing drug shortages across the world.

On Monday, Lupin, the third largest generic drug supplier in the US by prescriptions, and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories received establishment inspection reports (EIRs), indicating closure of investigation by the US drug regulator of their manufacturing plants. Lupin’s manufacturing facility in the central Indian city of Nagpur was cleared based on a USFDA inspection conducted in January this year.

“We are very happy to have received the EIR for our Nagpur facility, our largest and most advanced oral solid dosage facility,” Lupin managing director Nilesh Gupta said.

Hyderabad-based Dr Reddy’s said the company got the EIR for its active pharmaceutical plant 5 at Miryalaguda in Telangana.

On the BSE, shares of Lupin jumped nearly 5% to close at ₹825.95 Monday, while those of Dr Reddy’s rose 3.5% to ₹3,744.50, even as the benchmark Sensex ended 1.5% lower.

Last week, Bengaluru-based Strides Pharma said the USFDA cleared its largest manufacturing facility, after an inspection in March. This plant in Bengaluru has capabilities to produce finished dosage formulations including tablets, capsules, ointments, creams and liquids, and complex generics. Biocon, another Bengaluru-based company, got its insulin plant in Malaysia cleared by the USFDA.

For large Indian generic drug makers, regulatory hurdles in the US had led to revenue erosion and subsequently a fall in market value — Indian pharma companies have taken a hit worth nearly $1 billion in their market cap in the past 12 months.

Meanwhile, crucial drugs are being held up in ports and airports due to lockdowns in many countries, leading to governments taking diplomatic efforts to let lifesaving drugs pass through. One of those drugs was hydroxychloroquine, which is used by arthritis patients and now recommended for certain patients with the coronavirus infection.

US President Donald Trump had to get involved to let this drug reach America from Indian manufacturers. The USFDA had lifted the import ban it had put on IPCA, one of the manufactures of this drug. The USFDA website shows that there were drug shortages for several injections, anti-infectives and drugs used in critical care that are supplied by Indian generic companies.

“These clearances might not be strictly to do with regards to drug shortages in USA; it seems more coincidental,” said Surjit Pal, a pharma analyst with brokerage firm Prabhudas Liladhar.

However, Philippe Guerin, director of the Infectious Diseases Data Observatory at University of Oxford, in a report published last month said in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, global reliance on Indian generics was likely to become a complex international challenge.

“Governments and international organisations who depend on India for their supplies should look beyond their individual demands and support the Indian pharmaceutical supply chain. There is a need to look at contingency plans to assure access to APIs and medicines globally,” Guerin told ET last month.

There are many instances cases are not getting reported.. Even deaths not getting tested and confirmed.

And they are regulating every day case announcement.

Almost set at 100 per day.

Yesterday nationally crossed 1200 per day..

If lockdown is not extended might have seen a USA in India.

Inevitable is being postponed..

Hopefully some treatment or less virulent strains happens in that time..

India to boost drug ingredient output to pare China reliance

India plans to ramp up production of pharmaceutical ingredients to become an alternative supplier to China.

The current crisis also gives an opportunity to India to challenge China’s stronghold on supplying basic drug ingredients.

India plans to ramp up production of pharmaceutical ingredients and become an alternative supplier for global drugmakers hit by factory shutdowns in China due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Indian government has aggressively begun implementing a policy to ramp up local output and emerge as an alternate to China, according to people familiar with the plan who asked not to be identified as discussions are not public yet. The so-called “China-plus one” strategy involves identifying essential drug ingredients, providing incentives to domestic manufacturers and reviving ailing state-run drugmakers, they said.

The deadly coronavirus, which shut down vast swathes of the Chinese economy before becoming a pandemic, snapped global supply chains as factories in Asia’s largest economy fell silent. For India -- world’s single-largest exporter of generic drugs -- this triggered raw material shortages and exposed its dependence on Chinese imports. The south Asian nation relies on bulk ingredients from China to manufacture a fifth of the global supplies of drugs that are off patents.

India imports almost 70% of its bulk drugs and intermediates - the chemicals that make a finished drug work -- from China. A number of these are sourced from Hubei province, where the pathogen first emerged in late-December. Of the total $3.56 billion imports of such products in 2018-19, China’s share was $2.4 billion, according to information presented in the Indian parliament.

The current crisis also gives an opportunity to India to challenge China’s stronghold on supplying basic drug ingredients.

After announcing a 140-billion-rupee ($1.8 billion) fund last month for setting up three drug manufacturing hubs, the government has identified 53 key starting materials and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) whose output will be boosted on priority, the people said. These include fever-medicine paracetamol and antibiotics such as penicillin and ciprofloxacin.

Discussions are also underway on the viability of reviving on loss-making state-owned drugmakers Hindustan Antibiotics Ltd. and Indian Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Ltd. to speed up this process and ensure affordable medicines, the people familiar said.

“Indian bulk drug manufacturers could grow income by $3.3 billion if they expand capacity and global supply as the virus outbreak disrupts China’s pharma sector,” Mia He and Jamie Maarten, analysts with Bloomberg Intelligence wrote in a March 16 note.

Essential Medicines

Of the 373 drugs listed under India’s national essential medicines list, some 200 are imported as APIs, mostly from China, Dinesh Dua, chairman of Pharmexcil, an export promotion council under the trade ministry, said Blomberg.

Sudhir Vaid, chairman and managing director, Concord Biotech Ltd, said the government should support local companies by giving low cost power, subsidies and faster approvals. It takes as long as three years to get approvals, Vaid said.

“If the government goes full throttle with the monetary help in one cluster, it can become a success in two years,” Pharmexil’s Dua said. “In five years, we can replicate that model throughout the country.”

I can answer the first part. They are testing per million more than us because :

1. They are one seventh of our population. That means if they test 4000 in a day then we have to test 28000 to match that statistics.

2. They rate of positives is twice as ours. That means, if they test 100, they will get 8 positives and we will get 4. Meaning, compared to our population, our positives are lesser --or were lesser. So we have less fraction of people to test to begin. We were not testing any random person --well atleast not in large numbers. If your fraction of sick people is smaller, your fraction of population that will need testing will be lesser.

Now coming to recoveries :

Pakistan's major outbreak of hundreds and thousands of cases happened much earlier than India. So outcomes are also coming early too. India still has 87% of cases as active. Pakistan : 4246.0 / 5716.0 = 76%.

Lastly, age. Pakistan average age is 22.x year. India 26.x years. They have more children and young folks due to their massive fertility rate. If one single parameter determines the outcome of covid, it is the age. LEAST vulnerable age is 0-19.

Lockdown isn't a cure, it's just a delaying tactic.

But the fact that the chain's been broken in 25 districts is a pretty significant achievement. Just look at the size of our population.

If you have 15 cases and 15000 people quarantined , in a district , you can contain it immediately

The key is containment

This AAROGYA setu App is about Geo location of quarantined persons

Herd Immunity is the best option for poor countries who cannot afford a complete lockdown

It is like a controlled outbreak

But it also involves many more casualties

Depends on how many patients their healthcare can handle.

That's how these districts are doing it. There are only a few hotspots, although most of them are top tier cities.

BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — When China’s first shipment of coronavirus medical aid landed in Belgrade, the president of Serbia was there to kiss the Chinese flag. In Hungary, officials have played down assistance from the European Union and praised Beijing’s help. In the Czech Republic, its president says only China was there during the virus spread.

While China struggles elsewhere to polish its image tarnished by its initial handling of the coronavirus outbreak, Beijing has no problem maintaining its hard-won influence in Eastern Europe, where it battles for clout with the EU as well as with Russia in countries like Serbia.

China was criticized by many in the West for its early mishandling of the health crisis due to politically motivated foot-dragging while the virus raced through a major province and its capital, Wuhan. Now it is seeking to change perceptions through “mask diplomacy” — a combination of soft power policy, political messaging and aid that is designed to portray Beijing as a generous and efficient ally.

China for years has been increasing its political and economic influence in southeastern Europe through its Belt and Road global investment projects. Its image-polishing after the outbreak found fertile ground in places like Serbia and Hungary, whose populist leaders nurture close ties with Beijing or Moscow.

The aid shipments also drew praise in Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and Slovakia, although some Chinese shipments of coronavirus testing kits and face masks turned out to be faulty or defective.

“We must be aware there is a geopolitical component, including a struggle for influence, through spinning and the politics of generosity,” EU’s top foreign policy official Josep Borrell recently wrote in a blog, referring to China. “Armed with facts, we need to defend Europe against its detractors.”

Chinese officials have repeatedly rejected claims that Beijing is seeking political gains by providing medical aid to other countries, saying the allegations result from deep-rooted misperceptions of China's goals in the West.

I wonder, are europeans that useless that they cann't manufacture a DAMN mask? I thought industrial revolution started in europe! How difficult it could be to manufacture masks when litreally Chinese underwear manufacturers are doing it.

Finally the truth is out about TJ gathering in Delhi. All the participants had paid money to Markaz for their boarding and lodging and food in advance. This was a huge amount and it got pocketed by Maulana Saad and his family. Now cancelling the event would have caused huge loss to the family of Maulana Saad. He therefore made the call that Covid19 is an excuse to devide muslims and prevent them from offering Namaaz. It was all about money.
