Zorawar: Light tank for Indian army

Everytime they talk about a light tank under 25 ton I laugh.
I have not seen a vehicle in service anywhere in the world which can withstand 30mm armour piercing rounds and not weight more than 35 tons.
Logical thing still is to go for a 45 ton tank category with a powerful engine for mobility. Else those 350 pieces will have same survival rates like bmp2s
This light tank under 25ton is in news again, Project Zorawar. Obviously the requirements are sky high. Maybe this time it can fly as well given they have mentioned it must be amphibious.

This is important hint. A 1000hp high altitude engine, and a requirement of 25+ hp/ton.
We can thus calculate the realistic combat weight.

The 1000hp will obviously be at ground level. Take away some efficiency at very high altitude even with some modifications DRDO is talking about.
But even then for a 25hp/ton, we should have the envelope for expansion of upto 35 tons easily.
And modern European light tank prototypes weight in the same class.
L&T - K9 chassis? Wt will be?
DRDO - Gun & turret , calibre will be 120 mm smooth bore Or Rifled like arjun Or smaller gun?
The chassis will definitely have inputs from K9 turret, but the export version of K9 comes with a downgraded Armour protection actually.
To be able to stop canon fire (say 20-30mm) canons, a lot of work will need to be done on our own. In the end the chassis should in my opinion be new with inputs both from BMP2 and K9.
Other things , let's wait. Def expo is round the corner.
Drdo has been working with south korean defense industry on tank armor for a while now. Its mostly been under raps in indian circle.

The design isn't based on K9. Now I am a bit positive regarding the project.

Two very specific light tanks in display today. Zorawar looks pretty awesome, the Elbit light tank is also interesting with 120mm gun turret , reckon Adani will make it too? Did not even know Elbit had such a project running.
Mahindra also showed a 8 x 8 wheeled light tank model. I am a little disappointed as there was some talk about DRDO showing a prototype of Zorawar.
The DRDO Light Tank will weigh about 25 tons and have a crew of three. The tank is planned to sport a 105mm rifled bore gun. This will be capable of firing FSAPDS rounds with 500mm of penetration, HEAT, HESH and ATGMs among others. The planned gun elevation is between -10° and +42° controlled by an electrically powered gun control system. An autoloader will be provided for the main gun.
Secondary armament includes a 7.62mm coaxial gun and a 12.7mm RCWS. Surveillance drones will be integrated with the tank. A diesel engine would be provided which DRDO claims would provide up to 32hp/ton at sea level. The amphibious tank can ford depths of 1.5m. The tank can attain a maximum speed of over 65kmph and will use rubber tracks.
The tank would feature all round STANAG Level 2 protection with add-on armour taking it to STANAG Level 4 in the front. Active Protection System, laser warning systems and NBC protection systems would also be integrated along with smoke grenade launchers. The tank will be designed to exert low ground pressure and would be air transportable.
The project is expected to compete with light tank offers by Israel and Russia. The first prototype of the tank is expected to be ready by 2023-24.

A canon fire from a 20mm system will tear this tank apart.
What more protection can you get from 25tonn tank at least it's better than tin can sprut. Let's hope it doesn't become the reason for rejection.
