Sukhoi Su-30MKI

AL-41F1? Nope. Both these engines are derived from Type-30 though in AL-31FP size. AL-41F1 has 4-stage low compressor while AL-51F1, 177 & 177S have just 3 stage low compressor. It's the most advance Russian engine that is optimized for 1.5 Mach supercruise, 6000hrs life and below 0.67 SFC. All these three are proper game-changing 5th gen engines.

If Russians give us full IP along with know how and know why, they procuring 177 or 177S for MKI UPG. and Su-57I/MKI makes perfect sense.
still all of them have 9 stage high pressure compressor. which means higher weight and more maintenance.

@Rajput Lion so its really a good option for MKI. Hope IAF will choose this.

My nightmare is they are supplying this engine to j10 and ending up with pakistani fleets. If we are going for this engine we should get assuring from Russia that this will not happen.

Absolutely. Anyone who says that Algeria is more important to Russia than India need not to be taken seriously.

For Vladimir Putin, after Russia, no country is more vital for Russia than India itself. Still remember when he called himself India's best friend during his first term and first visit to India circa 2000. Still remember the huge MKI deal for license manufacturing of 140 jets, T-90 tanks and Admiral Gorshkov deal during his first visit.

This 2025 year visit also would be historic like his first one to India, me thinks;)
😂
WTF is this??? A russian bootlicking club??? Who cares which country is important to russia. Why does an indian guy care about being important to russia??? Let algeria be Putin's princess. Thats all these arabs are capable of - being the bootlickers of world powers.

Also, the most important country for Putin is China. Anyone who says otherwise is not to be taken seriously. Putin openly courts Xi like his life depends on it cause China is the single most important souce of industrial components for Russia. If it wasn't for China, Putin's ret@rded country would have already collapsed.

The Russian d!ckriding is crazy!!! Its like the most asSs-backwards country among the europeans. Atleast choose someone better to glaze!!

Well I dont like the glazing of the Russians but to suggest they are more backwards than say Bulgaria Serbia Bosnia etc is perhaps the most retarded comment in your long laundry list of retarded comments.

some people don't understand that even with an older engine, because of its high twr, better aurodynamic shape and better control surfaces, it will outperform any other 5th gen on the planet in the sky, its performance is the least of our worries, if service life or mainteance is an issue, I'll say beggars shouldn't be choosers when we have yet to induct an engine of our own let alone something which matches these figures.

Sources said that India and Russia are in talks over the upgrade of the Su-30 MKI. They added that modalities are being worked out by the two sides and currently technical discussions are on.

The IAF has stated on record that it doesn't want any more heavy fighters in the 35t+ MKI class. So it remains to be seen how Su-57 pans out eventually.

And while the bird has superb kinematics, the IAF likely expects its next-gen 5G fighter to atleast be a Rafale++ in terms of avionics and sensor fusion. Wish there was more info on the Felon's computing power too.

The vanilla Su-57 likely has Russian GOST standard databuses vs the latest MiL-1760 on the Rafale. Less processing power won't help Su-57s case either.

MoD year-end review 2025, IAF on IGA with Russia reg. spares

- Currently, there are three Make-III projects going on under JV/ToT with foreign OEM at various stages. IAF has identified 223 lines of spares for manufacturing/ ROH in India under IGA. Towards this, two JVs and one MoU have been signed. An IGA on ‘Mutual Cooperation in Joint Manufacturing of Spares, Components, Aggregates and other materials related to Russian/Soviet origin Arms and Defence Equipment’ was signed during the 20th India-Russia Bilateral Summit held at Vladivostok on 04 Sep 2019. The progress achieved and efforts made under the framework of IGA Russia are elucidated below:

- IAF has identified 223 lines of spares for manufacturing/ROH in India. Out of the 223 lines, Space Era, Hyderabad has formed JV with PJSC Kret for 24 lines. Supply Order for ₹207 Cr has been placed on Space Era, Hyderabad. Out of 159 items Joint Receipt Inspection (JRI) for 146 items has been completed and 13 items were found unserviceable during JRI.

- JV with Magnum Aerospace Solutions Pvt Ltd and Rubin Aviation Corporation for 76 lines of spares for Wheels, Brakes and Hub for IL series, Mi-17 series and An-32 ac. IAF is in the process of placing supply order for the required lines under IGA guidelines.

- MoU for three lines of Su-30 (Air to Air Heat Exchanger, Combined Control Panel & Dehydrator) has been signed between M/s Magnum Aviation Ltd and PJSC UAC on 15 Aug 23. HAL has informed that Combined Control Panel & Dehydrator has been indigenised. JV for Air-to-Air Heat Exchanger between Russian OEM & M/s Magnum Aviation Ltd is under progress.

- RFP for ten lines of Su-30 MKI ac for ROH were forwarded to AA, Moscow and DPO (ICE-1) for sharing with Russian OEMs on 22 Jan 24. AA Moscow has intimated that the RFP has been issued to NASC and OEM (PJSC UAC) vide AA/MOS/JV (IGA) dated 12 Feb 24. The response by Russian OEMs is awaited.

CEMILAC has awarded provisional clearances to MIDHANI for successfully indigenizing various grades of Superalloys, Titanium alloys & Special steels like BZL1, BZL14H, ZS 6Y, OT 4-1, Titan 33A, AE866W & 16XH3BFMB-W for the AL-31FP engine powering the Su-30MKI aircraft. These critical alloys will be further used to manufacture safety-critical & mission-critical aero engine components of AL31FP.
