Mirage 2000H, MiG-29UPG, Jaguar DARIN III - Medium Multirole Aircraft of IAF

Bye Bye Old Variants! All versions of Jags are being upgraded with the latest DARIN-III standard of AESA radar, A-A missiles, A-S missiles, Harpoon, SFW, JDAMs, Litening-4i LDP, HMDS, and glass cockpit.

The radar from the old post

Then what exactly are they planning to retire 2028 onwards ? Initial plan was to retire all non DARIN III upgraded FA from 2030-35 & DARIN III upgraded FA by 2040 . Then came reports that all Jaguars would be retired between 2028-35 . Now this.

Kuch bhi. Jump around based on claims by random tweets. Only 60 or so will be upgraded to D3 remaining will be retired from 2025.

HAL has been upgrading for a decade now. Still not even a single sqd done.

Maybe the ones with old Uk imported engines.
I did not find a source for this, but the person is relatively popular & does not offer fake news usually.

well a good chunk of their annual revenue come from ROH operation, and there are always small customer centric upgrades are sought, like moving map generation in gps. This sort of stuff cause some delay. A good part of the call they face question on ROH front every time. So this repair & overhaul business is something they always keep some work in hand as a fallback when big ticket projects are not realised in time, say we are now within 12-18 months of election year, so the next quarters there may be reluctance on part of the Govt to spend too high, or have high fiscal deficit. On counter they can also choose to spend on the stuck up projects too. So these revenue generating ROH work come handy in case some projects are not realised timely. That in turn hurts speed of needed upgrade projects.

Posted in engines thread but relevant to Jaguar operations too

" The Jaguar fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force was taken from France. But its maintenance and overhauling of its engine etc. is done in India only. Over a period of time, many engine parts are replaced. MIDHANI indigenized the Jaguar engine. In technical tests, the engine developed by MIDHANI was found to be superior to the original Jaguar engine. Today, Jaguar engines use parts from MIDHANI and are now in regular supply. MIDHANI’s components are flying regularly in Jaguar fighter aircrafts. "

They have to release some details about it, like performance improvements.

Upgrading a 3rd gen engine with some new age materials isn't a big deal though.
And without OEM approval that's not happening. Usual DPSU PRO overselling stuff.

It shouldn't be a problem here though. AL-31FP is a different story, but the Jaguar's current engine has no future, the OEM now has better tech, so it's not a competitor. Rather the upgrade can extend the life of the Jaguar and that means more money for the OEM.

In the foreground, the aircraft carries 2 GBU-49 and two Mk82 smoothbore bombs, in addition to the gun pod and the Damocles.
On the aircraft in the background, there is a GBU-50 in the belly and a GBU-49 in the left side. The PDL is probably a Damocles as well.

To have this offensive capability before the renovation of the Mirage 2000D, at least three Mirage 2000Ds and one Mirage 2000-5 were needed.
