LCA Tejas Mk1 & Mk1A - News and discussions

Yep. The payment terms and politics favour India.
After-sales service of the Aircraft needs to be improved... maybe HAL needs to add more automation to do these activities or take the help of some private consultancy to improve the process. HAL has limited exposure to this which will be a bigger concern and babus will kill all the reputation of the product LCA.

The engine is American, so spares supply won't be an issue here. Notwithstanding the fact that the Malaysians operate the same engine on their Hornets. But, since the engine is covered by a good supplier, it's not going to pose serious problems. The rest of the aircraft, yeah.

The bigger problem is HAL shouldn't find ways to cut corners, like using second-hand parts on newly delivered jets. Sometimes subcontractors screw up on delivery, so the OEM has to make up for such deficiencies by cannibalising spares to meet the delivery deadline. I just hope it doesn't come to that.

If ordered, Malaysia will be performing kit assembly. So, at least some overseas quality assurance will be available from the client side.

Another awesome performance of LCA on the last day of Dubai Airshow.
  • Superb Vertical climb and -ve G maneuver proves the design quality of LCA
  • The power of the GE 404 afterburner gives sufficient thrust to climb after the slow-speed maneuver

Hey what up !
Can anyone fill me in on the Tejas' performance parameters like str , itr , min turn radius and AoA and how it compares with Gripen C/D. Dubai performance seemed a lot better than Bahrain and slightly better than LIMA. Did HAL expand the flight envelope or something ? Also why does it feel like Gripen is more agile ?

BTW do watch the discussion in which a Naval Admiral is fighting a lone battle against a group of Imported Air Force (IAF) top babus for promoting self reliance (It’s a decade old video) .

Notice the contempt for LCA and eagerness to terminate the LCA project and “Move On”.
This was the type that sabotaged any effort of own fighter jet development and forced the country to rely on imported stuff.

Hilarious as it may sound but even Ajay Shukla was sounding much sober that other IAF babus.

It’s not like that their complaint against LCA or HAL/ADA was completely baseless. But that’s not unusual when you develop something new and quite advanced.

They all were claiming that the goals set by HAL/ADA are not achievable and therefore the entire project must be shelved on immediate basis.

This is coming from a Force who historically has been underperforming vis a vis its smaller but smarter rival Force.

Thanks to a Goan IITian ( who unfortunately left us too early) these guys were thrown out of decision making process and LCA was almost shoved to Imported Air Force’s throats.

The LCA was total shit at the time. The IAF "babus" were right, the design had to undergo changes before being accepted, and Mk2 is that change.

The Mk1A is a stopgap for the Mk2. It was accepted only because the IAF was that desperate and the PAF had failed to modernise. If MMRCA was signed or the Mig-21s had 5 more years, the Mk1A wouldn't have happened. Had the PAF modernised as well, the Mk1A would not have happened. Since the Mk1 was designed as an F-16 killer anyway, it worked out. Had the PAF bought the J-10 instead of JF-17, the Mk1A wouldn't have happened.

Same Babus are sending the rookie pilots on Suicide mission on Mig 21s, while they enjoy nice sip of coffee in the air conditioned cabin.

LCA was shit. But at least it was our shit and not of some Ruski or Frenchie bulldog. All it needed was some attention and persistence similar to what Navy does with its designs.
Heck right now even PAF looks much less antiquated that Imported AF of India whose inventory looks worse than any ordinary State Airforce Museum of any western country/USA. It’s *censored*in that bad.
And they are supposed to defend us against Chinese might (along with the Pakistan) in two front war

You seem to be teetering on the edge of a cliff. We only have 4 Mig-21 squadrons left, and you forget that one recently killed an F-16. The killer Mig-21s left service a long time ago.

It's difficult to believe that Tejas was Shit in Aug-2014 and while SP 01 was given to IAF -Jan 2015. There was an issue with IAF accepting Tejas, There were deep pockets in IAF to ignore LCA ... You can find issues with F35 but the USA has gone as per their induction plan. Now with active social media participants, these Dalals are getting banged nicely ...

Atmanirbhar Bharat: Indigenous LCA to foster local industry, says R Madhavan CMD, HAL
View of a former CMD of HAL

Sharing his view with Financial Express Online, former CMD of HAL Dr RK Tyagi says, “It will create an excellent ecosystem with HAL, BEL, L&T and other 160 plus Indian Companies and S/MSMEs.” Adding, “As Chairman HAL, IOC (initial operational clearance) was achieved on Dec 20, 2013. And, we delivered first Series Production aircraft (SP-1) to Air Chief Arup Raha and it was in the presence of Manohar Parrikar, the then Defence Minister on Jan 17, 2015 (in just 13 months).”

That was long time ago.
Now its just became a success and when Mk2 roll out we can confidentially says our technology is achieved the most crucial point .
From there its just a plain road with less traffic to move forward.

Absolutely that Mechanical Engineer from IIT taught these IAF teams very well.

That is what happens when you have zero interest in supporting the R&D team.
Several times they changed the requirements and tried to kill the program.
Look at the PAF ,JF 17 is nothing but still they were confident in accepting that jet
