I think you urgently need to consult with RST. He's often come up with impossible solutions before which seem plausible thus cushioning the impact to a great extent. That's his USP which is what makes him a good storyteller.
 
The supply of exotic materials like Titanium has been affected due to Russia-Ukraine war. That has resulted in delays, IMO.

What's the best configuration possible for air defense, air policing & bombing role?
well its just my guess but for
CAP : 2 EFT, 4 A2A missile and one ( 2 astra and 2 asraams ) and 1 SPJ
Interseption/point defence : 1 EFT , 6A2A missile (4 astra and 2 asraam) and 1 SPJ
For bombing role it depends on the mission like
1 eft , 4 dumb/precision bombs , 2 A2A missile and 1 SPJ
2 eft , 2 bombs , 2 A2A missile and 1 SPJ
and many such configuraion
 
Oh golly ! This seems to be getting better by the hour. First we've news the deliveries of the F-404 are delayed to April'24 then comes news GE is going to be penalised , then comes a denial by MoD & now this.

The twists & turns that goddamned requirement for Mirage 2000s from the late 1980s has seen ??!! It's unbelievable considering we're in the 4th decade of this circus.

If I didn't know better I'd say some big shot calling the shots in the MoD is either reading RST's posts or RST himself is calling out the shots there .

End result we'd probably get the Rafales along with or around the same time as the 97 nos Mk-1a , the Mk-2 , the AMCA Mk-1 & the Mk-2 . You could throw in the TEDBF too . Can't leave them out can you ? Can we afford all of them at around the same time ?

Probably we can if we strain our finances @300-350 million USD a pop given it's MII & Dassault will charge their pound of flesh for making it here , royalties , ISE etc.

The best part is all this will happen next decade by which time our China problem will have been sorted out one way or another. But hell we need those 42 squadrons & new FAs for acrobatics on Republic Day.

Congressional approvals are through. Must be held up on account of negotiations between HAL & GE on the finer details.

110 Kn engine also not decided yet.
In 2021 Ninda Turtle asked MoD to expedite it within a year IIRC. Perhaps he was referring to a leap year.
 
Everytime I read this and I can not help but laugh out loud.

India had 20 years to place an order of Engines from 2004 or so. It should have and it could have made an order of 500 engines in 2008,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19.... But it did not. It did not!!

If we had an inventory of 500 F404 right now, we would have saved time and money and would have reduced dependency on US a LOT.

In India heads get rolled for cost. No head ever gets rolled for delay.

This is why India will be perpetually unprepared.

Same MMRCA with same 6 participants instead of preferential Rafale?

They are ruling out Rafale purchase from Dassault France because of 10 year order book.

Eurofighter can be bought earlier than Rafale but you are ruling out imports..

Only contender that s having a head start in make in India is Rafale.

they are waiting for chinese take over & then will send a box of 5 mm ammo to taiwan.
 

Have long maintained that MRFA is nothing but a time-pass. And so is the next impending version of this tender, whatever it'll be called.

The real reason, which no one will say out loud, is simply that we don't have the the kind of money needed to procure 114 foreign 4.5 gen jets + cost of ToT & local production line.

The most viable way forward was always to just buy 36 more Rafales off the shelf, then put all resources toward Tejas Mk2 program which by this point has turned into an MRCA in it's own right comparable to F-21/Gripen-E.

The only outstanding requirement that Mk2 couldn't fulfill was of a DPSA with long legs. Two more squadrons of Rafales would have been enough to plug that hole, especially when supported by Loyal Wingmen & Rocket Forces which weren't part of the pictute before. Everything else that MRFA was needed for, Tejas Mk2 can manage just fine (including Deep Strike on Western front for which we don't need much range, allowing us to divert the Ambala squadron of Rafale to LAC as well).

Now unfortunately it seems even that 36 off the shelf order is becoming unviable due to timelines brought on by UAE's 80 jet order and supply chain issues.

We're stuck between a rock and a hard place. If we're smart, we need to convince MBZ to divert 36 of their production slots to us as UAE isn't facing immediate threats on their borders like us. Modi has built up a good strategic & economic relationship with UAE so it's possible.

I'm still wondering what this means for Navy's Rafale-M deal though.
