They didn't even start the project. They imported the Israeli Arrow system, which has been offered to us long back.Potential acquisition which derails our projects
Also, any status on deployment of Phase 1? I've only read about Delhi and Mumbai being protected
And also any update on Phase2?
All high-end imports are not substitute for indigenous systems(S-400/500 & Kusha, Su-60MKI & AMCA etc), rather they work as complimentary to each other. Not only our BMD will survive but its footprint will continue to grow until that point where its coverage reaches pan India. Also apart from land-based BMD, we'll even have the aegis of formidable sea-based BMD too doing the job for us. Don't worry.
Keeping fingers crossed. I do believe everyone in the govt. understands the importance of keeping Kusha/AD-AH fully self-reliant and funded and avoid killing it for some S500+EuroBMD solution. All high-end imports are not substitute for indigenous systems(S-400/500 & Kusha, Su-60MKI & AMCA etc), rather they work as complimentary to each other. BMD is a strategic system............ stategic systems usually dont get imported.Keeping fingers crossed. I do believe everyone in the govt. understands the importance of keeping Kusha/AD-AH fully self-reliant and funded and avoid killing it for some S500+EuroBMD solution.
We did try to import from Israel only for Uncle Sam to veto it heralding a new era of our own BMD development.BMD is a strategic system............ stategic systems usually dont get imported.
It was a strategic system in 2002, not anymore. Unless you mean something like GBIWe did try to import from Israel only for Uncle Sam to veto it heralding a new era of our own BMD development.
Yes, tech evolves with time but Uncle Sam will ensure that we'll never ever acquire their top of the line tech. That's why indigenous solution is the best way forward. It was a strategic system in 2002, not anymore. Unless you mean something like GBI
I think the news only meant to say some missile was fired again today, doesn't not necessarily mean it was BMD phase-2 test (though I'm hoping it were)AD-2 tested?
Both AD-1 and AD-2 tested. Also NASM-MR

How India joined the elite club of nations with advanced ballistic missile defence capability
DRDO has stepped up on the ballistic missile defence as Pakistan is acquiring missiles with multiple warheadswww.hindustantimes.com

Got it confirmed Wednesday. Heard from some friends, tested against Prithvi (pinch of salt) they said

It's definitely not AAD, even the radome is different, similar to AD-1. Maybe they have redesigned AD-1. However, there is a bit of flare-up below the mid-body fins if you look closely, it's mostly hidden by the canister plank things. The

has successfully demonstrated multiple crucial technologies bolstering nations defence capabilities against different types of enemy threats. Three consecutive flight-tests were successfully conducted to demonstrate multi-layered defence against long range Ballistic Missiles and Anti-ship capability at medium range.Multi-layered BMD capability was successfully demonstrated. The interceptors successfully engaged their respective targets. The systems are designed and developed with latest technologies to address the emerging missile threats. These tests have put India in elite group of nations having Ballistics Missile Defence Capabilities to engage Ballistic Missiles up to ICBMs. Anti-ship defence at medium range was demonstrated during the maiden flight test of Naval Anti-Ship Missile-Medium Range. Congratulations to DRDO on successfully demonstrating these crucial technologies.

Looks like Ground Launched NASM MR and AD-2, not sure about the 2nd image though never seen anything like this before.
It's either AAD (but that doesn't have mid body fins like the missile in the image) or AD-1 (but that doesn't have a uniform body like the missile in the image)

Most likely scenarioMaybe they have redesigned AD-1.
AAD can only engage targets at an max altitude of 25 km (officially stated) or upto 30 km (from unconfirmed presentation slides)Another consideration is that AAD can only engage targets of up 1500km-class.
No, this is a test launcher, even AAD used to be tested from this launcher earlierAlso, that's the same launcher they are gonna be using for LRLACM
