Good decision, this will be for counter drone operations when synchronized with radar inputs, also bhargavastra in combination with 2K22 will provide quick reaction saturation fire towards incoming drones.

New whole systems or just new missiles for currently in service Tunguska?

"For the Indian Army, DAC approved Defence Tracked System, Armoured Piercing Tank Ammunition, High Capacity Radio Relay, Dhanush Gun System and Runway Independent Aerial Surveillance System. The Air Defence Tracked System will provide real-time Air Defence Control and Reporting capability, while the High Capacity Radio Relay will provide reliable and fail-proof communication."

Its the original PIB news/announcement that was released.

Alpha defense's claim comes after the announcement, most likely after reading the announcement.

I doubt the FCS on the Tunguska is even able to discriminate LO targets like drones. The cueing is likely done by Akashteer. Per AI, the new missile has a 25% range extension (though crucially, no change in altitude) and "the shift from laser to radio proximity fuze and constant to pulsed beacon directly addresses evolving threats like small drones and low-RCS cruise missiles."

The frightening new capability that Maven demonstrated is providing 2000 !! targets in 48 hours. Enhanced cover and concealment and a mobile AD architecture is the need of the hour. This is a good short term procurement till Zorawar mounted SHORAD is ready.
