We've signed multiple FTAs with EU, UK, Aus, NZ in just the last couple years.

Because of Covid and later Ukraine war when tariffs by Trump were enforced, Indians were forced to sign it in haste. Not from own will. You should literally thank Trump which led Indians to speedify the trade deals with other nations otherwise, babus were sitting idle.

Look at how they're treating Canada, fellow Anglo-Saxons. India is not even in the same league.

We are shifting away from the topic of GE engines now.

BTW, by 'holding us hostage', I meant the Tejas program. But by squeezing F404 supplies, Trump's not doing himself any favours. We're not going to buy F-15/16s to eventually 'pave the way' (as he puts it) for the F-35.

US has not held you hostage, Indian government and it's freebie priorities is holding the development of Tejas Mk1 hostage. We have all the technology to even develop as super cruise capable engine. What we don't have a centralized policy and funds.

Not true. FTA negotiatons don't happen overnight + terms need to be ratified by Parliament.

When Kaveri was decoupled from the Tejas program yrs ago, it fell behind in the list of priorities. That was ~20 yrs ago. Now the chickens have come home to roost, KDE notwithstanding.

2-5.5 crore is the rate for member in standing committee to ratify the terms. More over the committees are already influenced heavily by the ruling party.

What happened what not is not important. Point is no one has held India hostage in development of any technology. After Pokhran test, it was also the test of Indian resilience to build a jet engine but have failed that time.

You could say that Tejas mk1 program survived because Kaveri was delinked from it. Back in 2008, we didn't have SCB and other tech + we chose not to use M88 core to develop an initial working model like the Chinese did with AL31.

But to say that there was no tech denial, now that's preposterous.

Even now AMCA program will survive in 2030 but we will have to delink it from engine development. I have said it over hundred times that it is always the engine. For every minute change in engine you have to send it to Russia for high alt testing.

NAETC high alt testing facility is not yet ready and we still lack manufacturing units for a lot of critical tech. But DRDO knows how to develop that tech. If Indian government grants $1.5 billion to GTRE today, you will get the engine in 7-8 years.

Avionics, fuselage, radar and software integration we are good.
