India - United States Relations

Coming to IT sector, it requires some reform in India. All the code writing and basic networking jobs should be transferred to diploma in eng. holders ( apprentice is must), even the MNCs have started relying on diploma in eng holders for such portfolios especially in Industrial PLC programming, Data Centers, HVAC maintenance and other Manufacturing plants. You don't need an IITian grad to program it. You need an IITian grad to develop this program. Application based learning is easy and another part of skill development which is must for boost in manufacturing.

There should be clear demarcation of who is doing what. Not some chaos. Good programm developers are loosing their talent in some miniscule task which can be handled by diploma holders.
Absolutely! And more so with AI helpers.

It is looking more and more that these new "rules" are lazily but targetting WITCH companies. They only target new H1Bs. Even L1s in USA who are moving to H1Bs will be fine. Its WITCH companies that will get a major shaft because they use H1B as a carrot. So now they need to rely on B-1 visas for business visits (interviewing, requirement gathering etc). Either B-1 will be abused to max ... or.... these companies will have to find new ways to conduct business.

I am now certain that this is an anti India economic war by current US administration. Nothing else.

Fine then work with Linux as the base & build stacks. Let it be a public private partnership with the armed forces involved hopefully under their stewardship like it is in the US for foundational programs which deeply impact the society as well as the polity.
Don't we already have some Government Linux Distros like BOSS and Maya? Although both are mostly used for Military..

I saw this on reddit earlier. Yes, the government has to perform its duty and extend help to these people. The most that can be done will be a negotiation. Indians who take a decision to attend any institute, purchase property, or take up a job abroad must understand some things - You are subject to local laws, your are subject to their immigration rules, and you are subject to their foreign policy. A visa is under the sole jurisdiction of the issuing authority. You are subject to it. This can happen and it is a risk that you are actively taking.

This is false. Trump government has TACO'ed already.

I know there was a clarification. However, people should be aware of certain aspects when they decide to apply for a visa and leave the country. In certain situations it is simply not possible to help them. Policy changes and amendments to guidelines is one such instance. Many Indians think Visa policies are unchanging and cannot be updated from one week to another. This can happen again and there is no way to prevent such a thing from happening.

It's no one's fault. But another haphazard move by white house in a series of reckless moves impacting people worldwide. H1-B visa impacts us, but it was indeed very cunning and possibly deliberate move by announcing the measure in the way they have done. Cause Indian govt won't care about barbs by navarro but they will when diaspora faces problems that they shouldn't.

This could've easily been announced earlier or with bigger timeline. He only TACOd it after India explicitly stated it can have humanitarian crisis and leftist picking it up.

Subgrade, while I acknowledge that, I will ask you to read my post again. "This can happen again and there is no way to prevent such a thing from happening." This is the point that should be kept in mind by anyone who fills a visa application for long stays for any country be it X or Y.

r. Yes, the government has to perform its duty and extend help to these people.
govt will become hostage to every country then, why only ppl in US why not not workers in kumait, qatar or SA ?

We should just move on , we should not give into such thuggery. If we do they will repeat it again.

What Trump did was a trailer, shot above the bow. He will repeat it in future. This is no different from pakistan using terrorism as foreign policy. We should respond in kind. US will continue to attack us , right from oil, adani, ambani, h1b, racist slandering on media...etc it will not stop. He did the same thing to china in his last term , arrested one of the chinese for iran sanctions and chinese responded in similar manner. What works is strength nor morals or values.

I agree with both you. Iin such volatile times.. when they were living in USA and aware of MAGA politics and rise of anti immigration in the west, we as a citizen too must be carefull about our decisions regarding such emigrations. One more thing on the checklist. Is the nation, immigration friendly in current politics.

I am not propounder of morals and values when it comes to Foreign policy. Infact I have been very vocal about strength respects strength.
Even I am expecting something from Indian government. It's very unlike of them. So, I don't know what's the internal discussion.. but going by govts history, I bet some major announcement/ manuevor will be in plan. Beside the export diversification.

But thing I can't conclude is to what's the nest measure. Is it something headline worthy but may lack the punch. Or something precise but only white house notices. Or a geopolitical game that burdens Trump.

After all, the guy just threatened Taliban over a base. Even Taliban is left wondering who is the Prez and who is the warlord here 🤣🤣

This guy is an absolute hack. Andy Mukherjee...you can always count on him to write a riled up piece. On a serious note, yeah, the IT sector should brace for these visa upheavals.
Is there a thread where we can discuss the decisions, policies, stance which India can take in the rising new world order to safeguard our interest. Not military but other policies?

While we are talking about digital independence/autonomy, Koo (Indian alternative for Twitter) just died last year. One can not grow good plants under shadow of big trees, even sufficient desi public support is not available for new digital startups, so no one wants to take risk. And this is the area where however rich a Indian guy/ organization is, he is having same vulnerability as other Indians, and this shows country's deep digital poverty.

Simple idea is to ban Twitter, Youtube, WhatsApp, Reddit etc in India and let Indian alternatives to take hold. Just like China did back in 2010s.

Koo as a company might have closed. But the code, softwares, IP that made koo is still there. I hope govt & founders of koo have come up with a deal which keeps koo ecosystem safe to launch it at quick pace when the time calls for it. And the call will be under the mandate for protection of data , as far as I can see for now.

Same with Hike.

There are some companies there. we don't need to the ban in the beginning , just even an announcement like will be banned on next month will trigger things. Just say the Indian app names in the announcement.
