Delhi Class & Rajput Class Destroyers : Discussions

That was a test bed, I don't think they are in service. The ship was INS Subhadra, a Sukanya class patrol ship.
A patrol boat firing ballistic missiles ! DRDO is ludicrous sometimes.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
INS Rajput too has the launch system of Dhanush present.

Eh....?!?!?! We have deployed surface fleet BMs then ? Do you have a photo ?
1 Rajput Class and 2 Sukanya class vessels have launch capabilities of Dhanush. But I don't think they are permanently deployed. I don't have pics of its Rajput though.

Both Dhanush and Brahmos can be used in tandem , to confuse the enemy Radars

Inclined Brahmos launcher on the INS Rajput. 4 on each side, a total of 8 missiles. Not to mention the one Dhanush ballistic missile she carries. For a ship that went into service nearly 40 years ago, she still carries a fearsome weapon load.

This is from Malabar exercise 2012. INS Rana leads the way followed by an US destroyer which is further followed by INS Ranvir. How comw these two don't have Brahmos here ? Was the upgrades done after 2012 ? or was the upgrades limited to INS Rajput ?

What we need is a few more Destroyers urgently, our total number of operational destroyers should be atleast 25 with as many submarines.
4-7 Lider class destroyers will be an awesome addition. They are the complete package and can dominate even the type 55s

Our required force level calls for 15 Multirole stealth warships. 4 P15B and 7 P17A are a part of it. Another 4 is required.

3 Delhi, 3 P15A and 4 Rajput are in service. 4 P15B should be enough to replace them one on one.

For frigates , we have 3 Brahmaputra Class, 3 Shivalik class and 6 Talwar class. The Godavari class replacement will be 4 more Talwars on order.

7 P17A ships will also improve our long reach capability. With these ships we will be able to show a continuous presence of a major warship near Seychelles/Mauritius and other important IOR areas.

10 Destroyers
7 P17A
16 General Purpose Frigates

Thats a good enough force mix.

Apart from these we are having project for 7 Next Generation Corvettes, 6 Next Generation Missile Vessels, 16 ASW Coastal vessels, 12 Minesweepers and 6 Next Generation OPVs.

They will enhance our firepower near our shores and fill in the gaps.
For submarines, present force levels calls for 18 SSK, 6 SSN and 7 SSBN.

Lider class destoryer project has been scrapped by the Russians.
They are also acrapping the expanded derivative of the Admiral Gorshkov class frigates.

Even after all the P-17As, P-15Bs and Talwars come in, we will still be short by 1 frigate and 5 destroyers. So we most definitely need to have the NGD enter production before 2025.

Currently we are at just 35% of what we need. Merely 6 modern destroyers and 12 older frigates that need introduction of more modern technologies. So, today we are short by 9 destroyers and 12 frigates. And on top of that some of the ships are unavailable since they are under refit. Also, 5 other ships are obsolete.

For the NGD , in my opinion Navy will likely delay it untill we have our own Long Range SAM ready. A naval variant of Endo Atmospheric BMD derivative.

Untill then more order if P17A should be placed. That is a well balanced warship which in actual terms is a multi purpose destroyer only.

Everything boils down to funding.

Navy has commitments towards the another akula from Russia, accelerating the desi SSN program, helicopter and P8I procurements, getting the 2nd CBG operational and in place. Placing orders for smaller warships.

Navy will need to prioritise and fill in the most critical holes first.

Coast Guard should be provided with enough funding so as Navy is totally free from any policing duties for our regional waters. That way some finding intended to OPVs, etc can be saved and directed towards other things like coastal Anti Ship Missile system, etc.

You don't need the SAM to be ready in order to build the ship. Only the radar is necessary.

The money they have is not enough. Which is why they have reduced their goal from a 200-ship navy to 175-ship navy by 2027.

I guess by 2022 , we'd see another downward revision to 150.

On the contrary, it's after 2022 that the ship numbers will start rising. In a way that it's never been seen before.

But the increase will be more visible within the army and air force instead, with 2 to 3x the number of inductions than the present.

Another small upgrade for Rajput Class Ships. D55 was spotted with Oto Melara SRGM gun replacing the Soviet era 76.2mm canon.
