Shoppers browse in a supermarket while wearing masks to help slow the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in north St. Louis, Missouri.

  • In St. Louis, Missouri, all but three people who have died after being infected with the coronavirus were African American.
  • Of the confirmed coronavirus cases whose race was reported in St. Louis County, 55% positive cases were black while 36.6% were white — however, only 24.9% of its population is African American only, while 68.2% of its population are white only.
  • Although data has laid bare the glaring racial disparities in the impact of the novel virus in St. Louis and beyond, the impacts on the black community have more to do with inequity than just race.

Every time a topic like this comes up I am somehow reminded of Singapore. I wonder if Singapore would be as prosperous as they are now if their population was significantly bigger, like say Malaysia or Philippines. I reckon they would be a lot worse off. Same thing here in a way. UP is massive in every metric. Thus even though the model of healthcare is same through out the country, per capita the quality of services is lower. I wonder if there is a way of improving healthcare services by changing the model. If so what model would it be. What about other sectors like education or nutrition or immunization ? Is there any particular model that you see to be effective in improving any of these sectors ? Surely there is something that works.

Voting for caste isn't prevalent here though.

Some problems are universal I suppose. The Tripura govt. has been trying to use local ward officials to get the news out that the newly set up rural hospitals are good. They have good doctors and medicines and what not. The point is to get the rural folks hooked to these hospitals to relive the stress on Agartala's hospitals. So far this has had mixed results. The local hospitals are becoming popular for common ailments but for emergencies people still rush over to Agartala. The common complaint is about the lack of availability medicines. I doubt this model can be replicated in larger scale though.

Singapore is prosperous not because of population its just because of one visionary man called Mr.Lee Kuan Yew . If not for this one visionary leader It would might not have become better than Malaysia or Philippines .

Assuming the consignment arrived by ship, it's a two week journey. Add 3-4 days for clearance at Chennai & 1-2 days for transportation to Mysore. Conventional wisdom has it that the virus doesn't survive more than 3-4 days in the open. This doesn't explain transmission.

Now the theory is an asymptomatic visitor from China spread the virus.

Wise decision Mr. Prime Minister (y)

Lockdown extended till 3rd May.

Time will tell

How will his promised relaxation post 20 th April works out

All that talk of 3 zones has proved to be false

Flattening the curve will be a district wise achievement and effort

India will never have zero cases

We will have to learn to live with Corona

Why should districts that dont have Corona or have only few cases be still penalised
