Chinese Wuhan Virus Thread

I don't know what exactly are the BMC & the Maharashtra Govt upto. Apparently they've given up on contact tracing. That they're not even testing adequately is also apparent. The so called Covid hospitals aren't even running full at the moment but there seems to be absolutely no clue as to how to respond to new cases . There's no accountability too. Observing social distancing & other such preventive measures is lax among the populace but there seems to be little will to enforce it too. With the result the cases instead of plateauing in a lock down seem to be increasing.

I fear in Mumbai we are in for a very grim future.

You cannot enforce Social distancing in
Mumbai ,. Especially in slums and chawls

It is just too congested

Who will provide all.food and milk and veggies at home to 1.8 crore people

Even the essential.services staff is in thousands

Be careful, the regional R should be observed as it can increase in one region and decrease in another.
Yes, broadly the problem increases with population density, which is why Scotland, Wales and NI have had very few cases relative to England. Cities might have to be quarantined for a period after the lockdown is ended elsewhere.

If you can't bring the mountain to Mohammed you take Mohammed to the mountain. In red zones, deploy mobile toilets which can be disinfected after individual use , distribute food packets door to door. Also deploy Mobile testing. Order a complete ban on anyone outside their homes. Utilize mohalla committees for better co ordination .

Deploy the SRP, RAF & CRPF for enforcement of all such duties with a thin presence of the local police for co ordination. The latter can be better deployed to cater to regular law enforcement issues. All this is difficult not impossible. Otherwise we're staring at an indefinite lockdown where, unintentionally, herd immunity is what we're aiming for & that in a city like Mumbai will take an additional 3-4 months apart from exacting a deadly toll.

So Be it

What you are saying is impractical

The best recourse is aggressive Contact tracing and screening of Primary
And Secondary contacts

What matters is an Acceptable Death Rate

The mortality rate is still less than 10 percent

Even.testing is not effective because you get False Negatives if you test before 5 days ie virus takes 5 days to come out positive in RT PCR test

Infact now.the Covid.care centres for asymptomatic patients are getting full

So.asymptomatic and positive will be told.to.get Home.Quarantined

The day of contact tracing are gone. This doesn't mean we shouldn't be doing it. Just that it's not happening with the Seriousness it ought to have. I don't think testing is an issue here. Having said that , it's not as if I'm giving the administration a free pass. Testing & tracing should definitely continue & practised more strictly .

In case you haven't noticed in some parts of Mumbai we've already entered the 4th stage. If we continue like this, even if we were to confine all asymptomatic patients home, we'd still run out of beds for the symptomatic ones, ventilators & trained medical personnel.

I'm told the BMC is gearing up to prepare ICU beds & care centre beds for 70,000 + ppl by 15th May in anticipation of what to expect by the end of this month . Thst should tell you the administration already believes it's lost the fight for achieving the due gains a lockdown should've produced & has accepted it's fate. What a defeatist mentality in addition to totally incompetent Clueless ppl running the show.

Nobody wants to catch infection but
Mumbai' s reality is such that it cannot be avoided

However if we look carefully at Dharavi numbers , it proves that once you immediately isolate the positives
The infection can be stopped

800 cases in 10.Lakh population in just.
2.5 Sq km is not bad

Neighbor died day before yesterday night due to Corona. Five(including four relatives) were hospitalized week 10 days back. Panic is setting in slowly. My in-laws neighbor also died in Worli just days back. He was also suffering from corona and was hospitalized on the same bed on which previous Covid patient had died. That too without changing bed or cleaning, it's that much collapsing.

Take care mate. Maharastra's situation is pretty scary. Things aren't that great in my part of the country too. We were doing fine about a week or so ago. Had two cases, both recovered. No fatalities. Now number of cases are nearing 150. The sudden explosion of cases was caused by a few BSF troops that came over from Assam. They were infected and they infected many among their battalion and family. This lead to a spur of testing in the state, although almost no civilian infections have been reported yet 2 battalions of BSF took a hit. Still no fatalities, so many of these cases are still in very early stages. There has been some cases of people breaking quarantine only for the police to break their backs. State govt has asked for HCQs and paracetamol from Centre. There were some complaints about the quality of the PPEs supplied, but those murmurs seem to have died down. I hope that we can make it through safely.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Chinese leader Xi Jinping (習近平) asked World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus to suppress news about the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the German intelligence agency BND found, according to a report by German magazine Der Spiegel.
