Zorawar: Light tank for Indian army

Given the latest article is saying the 59 L&T will be in parallel to the 295 TASL/Mahinda order... I'm leaning towards assuming TASL/Mahindra will be some 🪛 JV.

Hopefully that is not the case and L&T makes a TON more profit than TASL/Mahindra otherwise private industry will learn the wrong lessons... i.e. stay away from DRDO partnerships because you will get larger orders with less R&D headache/investment doing 🪛.
It's make I category, so it won't be screwdrivergiri.
105mm is standard and I hope they stick with it.
Why ? Isn't having 125mm smoothbore helps in indian logistics ?

Zorawar weight class changed to 30 tonnes category. Could be due to a number of reasons like the level 5/6 protection requirements or maybe the in-development Indian substitutes for the imported systems are just too heavy. I would be betting more on the former, or who knows it's a mix of both. image-18.png

I absolutely love this. When the project 1st started I said that everyone single *censored*ing person who is supporting this is an idiot. You cannot have a "tank" under 35 tons.

DRDO did a very decent task of building an armoured infantry fire support vehicle Zorawar under 25 tons.

I had at the very beginning told that if you want a tank - i and most conventional armies will put that vehicle infront of a combined arms formation because it will most likely survive a 105mm AP round in the frontal arc.

Anything which cannot do this is not a tank. It's an infantry fire support vehicle.

Now the best light tank which will fullfil a requirement of Army for a fake tank is CV90-120. 4dv5yhpe3k741.jpg

The Zorawar's composite hull can possibly be up-armoured but the Cockerill 3105 barely has any armour of it's own.

The Army's new spec will likely require a new turret (preferably remote controlled) to keep weight down. But there would still be compromises, considering all the other gear like ATGW, APS, RCWS, etc on it.

The turret they are making is said to weigh 8 tonnes when fully populated. Here's to hoping, that the new protection requirements were factored in during it's design.

Btw the C3105 turret is said to be able to reach lvl 5 in heavier configs, but it is not known if it's the case with the one on Zorawar.

Apparently the bare bones C3015 is in roughly the same ballpark in terms if weight.

Add on armour panels and other gear will likely take its weight up a ton or two.

How exactly is this realated to privatisation? This has been there all the time. It's an institutional issue with the services.
When it was just one wing of the govt speaking to another, the incompetence was simpler to pin on DRDO ( "always late" ) or PSUs ( "lazy/shoddy workmanship "). Seldom the shifting goalposts of the services or the timely MoQ clearances/funds by MoD.

And here we are, a tank designed to QR in 19 months and ready to be manufactured, yet barely given an order of 18. I suspect that too, only because L&T probably sent signals they were looking to pull the plug or sue... after all this is not a PSU running a charity here.
