RudraM Series Air-launched Missiles : Updates & Discussions

Also the DAC clearance was for Rs.1400 crore worth of Rudram-1 missiles.
Any orders less than Rs.2000 crore do not require CCS clearance AFAIK

Yep. Almost.

These are called CFAs, Competent Financial Authority.

200-500 Cr can be cleared by Defense Secretary. 500-2000 Cr by RM. 2000-3000 Cr by FM. And CCS is for above 3000 Cr.

Up to 200 Cr by military commanders. Increased to 300 Cr for emergency.

Rudram-1 at 1400 Cr only needed DAC approval for production.

Media just focuses on big ticket items or just lobby articles they get paid for, it's a business.

So Kamat ji was right that IAF may induct Rudram-1 by 2027-28?

Why are you joking? Since when is DAC clearance equal to an order?

There is no confirmation indicating that IAF has signed any contract for supply of these missiles.
You don’t need ccs approval for orders less than 3000 crore. They literally just said that above you.

Now I don’t know that boss. But should be signed it was approved in 2022 . There is no panga of cfa beyond RM himself.
When astra was ordered, there was confirmation from multiple sources. Lets see if we hear rudram 1 being used in exercises. But I don't think that it has been ordered.

Otherwise manufacturer would have made it public

Arey bhai you need contract signing with the manufacturer no? Is there confirmation of that?
There are no articles available that give the lot size/order details. So, there is no confirmation of an order being placed to an OEM by MoD. If someone has the statistics, please provide a link for the same.

NGARM is NOT in production. It is still awaiting induction but as the User Trials are complete, it will hit LSP stage soon. The first batch is supposed to be of 200 missiles.

Just like Astra 2, where a breakthrough in propulsion made its range to increase from 160-180kms to 240+ kms, similarly an enhanced RudraM-1(A) is planned with high-density energy rich propellant chemistry to increse its range from current 150-200kms to 250-300kms. These upgrades are the reason that both Astra MK2 & RudraM-1 induction has gotten so delayed. Yet, the final production version of both would be much superior to the baseline missiles.

The chap quoting the tweet is truly dumb and ignorant, this isn't a shop floor, these are Rudram-3 test units that RCI has built, not some DcPP like BDL, L&T, etc

Astra Mk1 order was worth Rs.2971 crore, significantly greater than the Rs.2000 crore figure and hence requires CCS clearance, which is exactly why it made the news.

DAC approved and cleared orders go straight into production without publicism. It allows the military to keep the numbers ordered secret.

We generally only get to know initial numbers, like this time it was for 200 missiles. But after this point, it goes into an information blackhole. All we hear is the weapon is in production and we will never know the real numbers ordered.

During shareholder meetings, companies only report the value of the contracts, then we have to guess the numbers ordered using that.

We sometimes get exact numbers only for imported equipment without local production. But even this can become a secret if the order value is small enough. For example, IAF publicised the order for Russian AAMs, but only mentioned Derby ERs in passing. Only after looking at debris from Op Sindoor did we know that Derby ERs were ordered for SPYDER.

I mean you already make up too many stuff to count. Now you started with government procedures as well?

All these missiles deals are public record. If it entered production it will be publicized. Dcpp partner is Adani. They will be celebrating it in a big way.
