Current Medal Standings
Congratulations Paddy. 4 Gold & 3 Silvers for UK. I wonder how many of those medals were won by ethnic English Scots Welsh & Irish as opposed to naturalized immigrants preferably of African Asian or European extraction. Any break up readily available?Current Medal Standings
Olympics is one good example to prove that India is equally bad at every thing. Indian govt is so corrupt & incompetent that they cannot find even single person for each of the simpler disciplines like running, swimming or long jump.Current Medal Standings
It's multiple reason really. A lot of is how indian culture is more education centered on making wage slaves than on making individuals..Olympics is one good example to prove that India is equally bad at every thing. so are we better than rest of the world in education that we file million more patents or publish path breaking papers than other countries ?It's multiple reason really. A lot of is how indian culture is more education centered on making wage slaves than on making individuals..
In patents yes we are the third largest contributer to patents after China and U.S but we suck in maths and physics Olympiads. So when it comes to international competitiveness we are behind, but I feel it's more due to the GoI since the independence really doesn't really care about the global perception of its people. You see our entire education system and culture is geared for creating wageslaves not Human excellence...so are we better than rest of the world in education that we file million more patents or publish path breaking papers than other countries ?

Yeah they are the only country with no government funded program. Free market capitalism at its finest I would say..
THREAD!!
This here is a great thread by a US citizen of Indian origin on the disparities in the system between the 2 nations. The US government incidentally doesn't have a ministry for sports not does it fund athletes unlike the rest of the world. The US owes it's success in Olympics to it's universities & general love of sports by its citizens.
seriously ?sports where minimum physical activity
Nothing to do with free market capitalism more of attitude towards doing things. Even if we have corruption free unbiased selection we can certainly make mark in some of the sports. They have better system which ensures best are selected not some one with connections. Its just like education , if you are in a class of top scorers probability of scoring higher increases as you will compete with them and improve yourselves. If you are with laggards you can compare with other laggards and feel happy about it without any intention of progress. In Indian society every one wants to just play politics and surround themselves with hypocrites and idiots which makes secure. End result is that every section of the society just rots. Few ppl who try to rise above the system is crushed.Yeah they are the only country with no government funded program. Free market capitalism at its finest I would say..
At the end of the day you make that society. In patents yes we are the third largest contributer to patents after China and U.S but we suck in maths and physics Olympiads. seriously ?
Indians have lot many excuses.
Its ... not that simple. Almost ALL American schools have basic sports facilities and a dedicated coach. In india, it is very likely that your school has no playground at all. Unlike India, getting an admission in the top rated universities in America require one form of extra-carricular or another. Sports being one of the most known one. In India, none of the government funded universities (or very few, AFAIK) actually reward you for having any sports experience in your resume. Then there is a culture of inter school sports that is almost missing in our country. And lets not even talk about social life in american high schools. The cliche of "Jocks" vs "Nerds" is way exaggerated but it has elements of truth in it.Yeah they are the only country with no government funded program. Free market capitalism at its finest I would say..
what physique are you talking abt , do you need to be 10 foot to be a table tennis player or 18 foot to shoot an arrow ?What's so surprising about this?
To have the physique needed for sports at the global level, you need proper training.
