Arihant-class SSBN - News & Discussions

That's fine. I been in the Pakistani navy in early 90s. Back then for us going as far out in the sea when the lights of Karachi couldn't be seen, was something to brag about 😂.
Our ships and even subs rarely left the Dock.
Even under such docile navy, i don't remember any navy threat from India.
The two countries are next doors to each other and don't need such sophisticated weapons to attack each other.
How far in the sea? The edge from where city lights can be seen. Thank you.

No arihant ,she was still there till mid may but chakra is a mystery ,so she could either be at sea or at the big hanger
Arihant had returned from patrol in may probably and heading out to sea in June. Chakra was not seen since march, so probably on extended patrol once Arihant returned in May. @Gautam Big boats might go to home base as well and nobody will know for sure. Recent imagery points to all infrastructure up & running including support vessels. In HSL there is berthing available for at least 4 boats. Some support vessels seem to have been moved as well.

We ought to keep an eye on the INS Varsha project too if we are to understand deployment patterns. Recent photos show dredging work is almost complete.

Dredging seems to have completed already, match the holding area water color against other active naval bases, it's not muddy anymore as well.

Do we have any pics as of yet of the nuclear powered version of Scorpene being built for Brazil? Maybe it's from there.
That is probably under construction, initial stage only. Design is given below.

Diesel version was launched couple of years back.

DRDO & industry are jointly developing an electric motor driven Pumpjet propulsor for submarines. It is meant for the upcoming SSNs/SSBNs. BHEL has experience developing & deploying 20MW motors. That & the pumpjet R&D work done for the Shakti torpedo will prove critical here.

it means that our upcoming nuclear submarines will have electric propulsion instead of gear box currently used in arihant class. so submarines will be more quiter.
