The Railway Board has announced extra charges, in addition to the normal sleeper class fare, will be collected from the passengers.
These extra 50Rs and fare from stranded workers without work from month will go long way in bailing out friends when they default in coming months.

To think, the red zones are going to see restricted opening up from 4th May. I fear community spread which is still restricted to certain pockets within a city or district is going to be widespread. I can see a second wave coming very clearly & to get out of this one will be clearly more difficult than the first one. Neither are our governments man enough to enforce strict curfews in containment zones nor do our people display the sagacity required.

I had mentioned on the forum that the govt should have allowed the migrants to leave for home before the ridiculous saga of banging on pots and pans. Education and smart decision making is lacking within BJP ranks beginning frm PM. How do you contain the spread of an infectious virus in a slum? Most slum dwellers own decent homes in their village. Once at their native, social distancing would have been easier to enforce with the help of the grass root level health worker and rural police. Also, they dont have to deal with mental issues associated with a lockdown. I'd bet that wives are being beaten like rag-dolls at home.

Corona is a problem in cities, not villages. Even if it spreads, its easier to contain, just like they did for Ebola in rural Africa. Once cities got affected, shit hit the ceiling. No denying that. What should have been done - send the people home, enforce lockdown and allow some time for civic authorities to prepare healthcare facilities/researchers to work on the virus and when things seem to get better, allow partial reopening of the economy. At least you don't have to deal with 6 folks living in a 10 x 10 shanty. Now that slums are becoming hotspots, the healthcare system will be overwhelmed and deaths will be higher.
