Chinese Wuhan Virus Thread

It will be stupid to extend the general lockdown. Instead we must remove lockdown selectively from areas which have not witnessed any new case in last 4-5 days. The lockdown can be localitywise, districtwise or even statewise. But I am against keeping whole India locked down.

We unfortunately need 2 more weeks of lockdown due to the stupidity of the zombies.

However there are plenty of districts that are virus-free and many more whose infection links are broken. So those districts can be lifted from lockdown from the 15th to 20th.

Hotspots will require lockdown even after the 30th.

The GoI is going to ensure an all India lockdown till 30/04 post which all those districts which haven't reported an infection for the past 14 days will be opened up in a graduated manner.

I think states are gonna make the call in some cases. But I don't think it's finalised yet.

Karnataka has already flattened the curve, and the infections aren't much anyway. There are 30 districts and only 14 have the virus. Out of those 14, only 2 are serious, that's Bangalore and Mysore, with 51 and 45 active cases each. Two districts have 10 and 11 cases. The rest are in single digits.

Most migrants had already left for their home towns a week before the janata curfew. The remaining migrants were allowed to leave to their places back on 24th March, and it appears they did not carry the virus to their places, since there have been no active cases in most of those areas. Only a few thousand were leftover and the govt took care of them. So Karnataka did not face the migrant issue and even the zombie horde was dealt with in the first week of April.

The biggest threat now is a pharma company called Jubiliant Life Science that seems to have taken an infected supply from China via Chennai. So all the employees are under quarantine, and door-to-door check of over 41000 people has been done. Now they are gonna test all the employees. It's almost been 2 weeks now and only 35+ are positive. 70 more have symptoms and have been identified. So even this major cluster seems to be under control.

In a week, 26 of the 30 districts will likely become virus-free. So it makes sense to end the lockdown in most of those districts between the 15th and 20th, as long as the district borders are sealed.

Any spillover, we will get to know long, long before the 20th.

I just hope there's a nationwide ban on trade with China until a vaccine is available.

Banning Trade with China is not easy

Supply Chains take time to be created

And then there is the Thing called "Costs "

How soon can we start making all Chinese imported products here in India and at what cost

Ban trade and take a hit for now. Just like how the economy has been shut down. The alternative will simply see a repeat of this lockdown jhanjat after a few months.

I feel like the Chinese are deliberately spreading the virus using their goods trade.

People can manage to survive without importing most of the electronics for a year. Those who are desperate can always pay a little extra for a year. There are alternate suppliers for pretty much everything China makes, although a little more expensive.

50-55% of China's exports to India are electricals and electronics. Everything else is 1-2% and easily sourced from elsewhere.

At the very least our electronics industry can make some effort to reduce the gap.

It will need a global concerted effort

India alone cannot do it

If Europe --USA -- Japan All act in unison
China can be punished severely

But I think all democratic countries
would be under pressure to bring back
Growth and employment

I hope they sent some of these tablets to district hospitals for Indians too.

My district hospital had ZERO Tablet around mid March.
HCQ tablets ? How will they treat Malaria let alone COVID-19 if they don't maintain stocks ?
Aren't there any private pharmacies around hospitals ? In our state, hospitals are surrounded by privately owned pharmacy/drug stores. they are sufficiently stocked and rather well maintained. So much so that under normal circustances the hospitals keep almost no medicine stocks themselves rather patients are asked to purchase drugs from stores when needed. In case of emergencies, like floods or now the COVID-19, the state govt. releases funds for govt. hospitals to buy up entire stocks of necessary drugs from nearby private pharmacies. Don't know what private hospitals do though.

How do hospitals in your place work ? Do they maintain stocks at all times or only during emergencies ?

Out of the more than 15 lakh Indians who returned before March 22 , only a few have been infected

All damage was done by the " Single Source " event

I'm not talking about punishing China. I'm talking about protecting ourselves first.
