Chinese Wuhan Virus Thread

Doesn't make sense. The infected are primarily from outside India and their contacts.

We will know if we are in Stage 3 only if hospitals start reporting infected without travel or contact history with international travellers. That's yet to happen.

But it is bound to happen.
We have also stopped all international flights for seven days starting 22nd Mar. That will ensure feesh inputs of effected people.

Frankly this is hindsight speaking but I think we're a week behind in our containment measures. If this goes to Stage 3 & beyond, we'd have hell to pay. And I'm not being the anti thesis of randomradio here, but I've got a sinking feeling our goose is cooked.

Don't worry, it won't spread the way it spread in other countries. The most population lives in rural areas and they should be asked to confine themselves district wise. The IAS would have started this. Cut off Cities from Villages. That's more important.

And most importantly, start using copper pot for water. Copper has got tremendous antiviral properties.

Oh Bhai, I'm in Mumbai, we're in a semi lockdown state. Which means from tomm all non essential shopping establishments & offices shut down. This includes my favorite pubs & gymkhanas. If you continue your mindless patter, by God ki kasam, maroonga dus ginoonga ek, kasam Mahakali ki.

Not sure if any amount of days is enough. I don't believe this is meant to stop the infections, but meant to reduce the stress on our medical facilities while alternate arrangements are made. Only curfews and quarantines can stop the actual spread. Once flights resume, more infected will come in anyway.

We need to build very large quarantine facilities capable of holding thousands of people at a time. Thankfully the govt's done a very good job buying time, but everything will fall apart if the time they bought is not utilised properly. Or else people are going to start living like refugees in makeshift camps.

We also need tons of isolation wards and portable toilets.

Our entire senior citizen population is already at risk, and now it's come to notice in the US that even those between 20-60 are at risk of hospitalisation.

In the end, all geese are cooked. You can delay it but you cann't avoid it. Hope we get those 1 million testing kit on hand soon. This makes me feel may be Naizi was intelligent after all. He threw the towel right from the start. Smart move.

They are saying that by the middle of April we will enter community transmission.

It's unrealistic to avoid it because even those who have immunized themselves are still carrying the virus for months after, ready to infect others, at the same time they can fall sick again, just like common cold.

Right now it's all about how well our health infrastructure can cope with the current problem until the entire population is immunised to the point that people can take care of themselves at home the next time it hits, like a regular viral fever.

It appears most of us, especially the ones in cities, will get infected. Until then it's about buying time.

Damn, this is precisely the kind of thing I'd expect your compatriots to do, Paddy! @BMD
Whereas, hugging a cow is what we would expect you to do. Thank you, come again.

Months? That's new, I thought it was 14 days?

Whats the source of this number?
Read from a journalist (non political one), it was actually 60k Indians incoming from abroad per day in January (or Feb) and was 40k on around 8th March. Reading a lot so lost the original source.

Did my own research from multiple sources, IBEF put total international passengers in India to be 65 million for 2019, out of this around 10 millions are foreigners (ministry of tourism). That makes 55 millions of Indians or 4.5 million Indians per month or 1.5lacs per day.

But IBEF was not clear on inbound or outbound traffic, it said international passengers so let's divide it by 2 as it count 2 passengers for 1 trip (outbound and inbound) that will make 75 thousands per day inbound roughly.

So that report corroborates the data. Also UNWTO puts total Indians traveling to abroad in 2019 to be 50 millions, which will again put number at 1,40,000 Indians per day. (Source)

Numbers I quoted were lowest of all these (Corona fear, travel restriction and so on).
