I thought it was only the public transport buses.....No way can the Delhi govt afford to subsidize metro rides. Missus here spends monthly around 2K to 3K on Metro commute. Most working woman here have the metro monthly passes and i reckon this one of the main reveneue streams for Namma metro, imagine if the govt was picking up the tab. This could seriously cripple the state exchequer.

Exactly. Besides weird kind of empowerment this is, people can't even pay their own fares. This is our standard response to everything, isn't it. Want to alleviate poverty ? Govt dole outs on the way. Want to win elections ? More dole outs incoming. Typical:cautious:

Don't mind offering a little dole out for those who are in real need for it. Sure no issues if states subsidizes the metro commute for women with physical disabilities, war widows or the elderly woman passengers. However offering dole for no rhyme and reason, esp when a large segment of that group can easily afford is nothing but cheap populism.
