US approved sale of Integrated Air Defense Weapon System (IADWS)

Those AIM120C7/C8 hmmm... May be we can finally start to integrate them with our Israeli radars. I will love to see Jags firing AIM120C7/C8 or that two pint of a fighter Tejas firing AIM120C7/C8. Since we already have few of them, later we can buy 'few more' of them. Balakot proved that to be a successful attacker, you need right missiles. Jags and Tejas armed with AIM120C7/C8 will be a nightmare for anything ChiPak can throw on IAF.
LCA have /will have 2032/2052 israeli radars ,why they didnot till now tried amraam as a bvr if meteor was denied ??
if nothing else it could have simply expanded the domain from which we can choose our bvram
Whole Indian military is a big zoo...look like only Chinese animal is left.
and probably one of the reason of our sub optimal performance many a times??
even usaf also doesnot have the types/varieties which we have whether its a/c or sam
and now add submarine also

I hope this wouldn't dent our S-400 deal and hopefully the NASAMS is reserved for NCR

They are not Air to Air missiles

They are also used as SAMs.ie in NASAM
which we are buying

But yes if we can get a Future follow on Order for Tejas , it would be awesome

AESA with Amraam 120 D will make even Su 30s look ordinary

This is for the Delhi Defence Plan. NASAMS will form the quick reaction tier. But I feel the deal is overpriced for some reason. $1.9B for just 5 small radars and 118 missiles is too much.

Astra Mk1 will be upgraded to Aim-120D standards, and Derby ER/K-77M are far superior to Aim-120D.

And then we cry that how come we don't have money. Big waste. I hope and wish we never are able to get the budget availability for this thing.

on a serious note what it will bring which was already not available under spyder??? any particular reason or as somebody suggesting here and at BR also this will be the hafta we have to pay to both russian and muricans till we become self sufficent

At 5 billion $, u give air cover to the country but 2 billion $ only for part of Delhi?

Think we will be having a list of political deal s

Nasams
Kamov
Ak203
Project some frigate
Igla s missiles..

India concerned over ‘very high price’ of American missile shield for Delhi

New Delhi: India is concerned over the “very high price” of the American missile shield it wants to use to protect the national capital against the threat of 9/11-type attacks by enemy aircraft, cruise missiles and drones.

The American government had last week approved the Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS) for around USD 1.9 billion including different types of radars and missiles systems on the request of the Indian Air Force under a government-to-government Foreign Military Sales request.

“The project has been approved by the Americans at around USD 1.9 billion which is almost double the price at which we were anticipating it to be. We are concerned over the high cost of acquisition and we may have to look at other options also,”
government sources told ANI here.

India had expressed interest in buying the system to replace the existing Russian systems which have been deployed for many years now for protecting the possible targets including VVIPs in New Delhi as part of Indian Air Force’s (IAF’s) Delhi Area Defence project.

Sources said the issue is expected to come up for discussion with the American side during the visit of US President Donald Trump who is visiting Ahmedabad and New Delhi on February 24-25.

Sources said the high cost of the American weapon systems in a cause of concern in other projects too like the acquisition of 30 Predator drones which will cost more than USD 100 million each with options of being used in a weaponised version as well as the reconnaissance roles.

The approval by the Americans for the NASAMS missile shield includes five AN/MPQ-64Fl Sentinel radar systems, Fire Distribution Centers (FDC), Electrical Optical/Infrared sensor systems, and Multi-spectral Targeting System-Model A (MTS-A).

It also includes 118 AMRAAM AIM-120C-7/C-8 missiles, three AMRAAM Guidance Sections, four AMRAAM Control Sections, and 134 Stinger FIM-92L missiles, along with Dual Mount Stinger Air Defence Systems and Vehicle Mounted Stinger Rapid Ranger Air Defence Systems, canister launchers and high mobility launchers.

In 2018, when an Indian team had visited Washington DC, they were not allowed to witness the functioning of the NASAMS systems as it was deployed in the middle of an American Army base.

India and the US would now discuss the cost of the missile defence system during the contract negotiations between the two governments.

The Defence Acquisition Council has also approved the cost of the project around USD one billion in July 2018.

During the Trump visit, India and the US are likely to take forward their deals on the acquisition of 24 multirole helicopters for the Indian Navy and six Apache attack choppers for the Army.(ANI)

Why did we buy s400 then if we have to go for something new?

At this cost India can start it's own manufacturing unit for Akash or AAD or develop a missile like s400+ or work on stealth technology.

:ROFLMAO: Finance ministry will never approve such a number.

I thought it was a rumour but action on the ground hints otherwise. I see this move as another in a long list of moves by this government to appease Trump & be in his good books. How else does one explain this? The Indian team wasn't even allowed a demo on their visit there which makes one wonder why were they there in the first place.

Why do political deals have to be bad choice and also expensive?

Just to prove how far we can bend our backs?

Is there something smart secretive motive underneath it?

Or just posturing to the last minute.

Why don't they order just Naval MRH and P8I and be done with money that's left.

And the opposition a holes want to screw Rafale deal and let these stupidity without a scratch.

Even $1B is overpriced. The current deal seems to have 150% profit.

118 AMRAAMs = $320M
134 Stingers = $7M
Just 5 radars and assorted launchers, command and reload trucks should cost less than $100M, possibly even $50M.

So the overall deal shouldn't be anything more than $500M. If you bring in offsets, training, maintenance etc, it should add another $200M or so, that's $700M.

The better option is to have DRDO make a new SAM based on the navy's upcoming SRSAM, mated to QRSAM's radars and CP. Even if only half a battery is made, it will be much cheaper than $1B, let alone $1.9B. It can become a pretty decent export option and we can add more advanced missiles to the mix, like the Astra Mk2 and Mistral/Starstreak.

Even the Predators are overpriced, but that's a story for another time.
