The SPECTRA (Self-Protection Equipment Countering Threats to Rafale Aircraft) electronic warfare suite is totally integrated into the Rafale. It is the basis of survivability in the face of the latest generation of air-to-air and ground-to-air threats.

No doubt the Rafale was escorting the SU, but in providing Top Cover capability, If it had METEOR, even with only one way link, instead of the available two, The MICA aren't up to the task, it doesn't have the range, The Rafale puts itself in harms way for the sake of the mission, helping the SU though

SPECTRA means " Système de protection et d'évitement des conduites de tir du Rafale ". No mention of self protection alone.

Bon Plan, If you look at the link, The above is a direct quote from the Thales website, The manufacture says Spectra is self protection and every official mention of SPECTRA reinforces this, Even though it upsets a French forum guy's wishful thinking

Do you have a credible link that says different?

As India as the habit to use french jets to protect raids, as M2000 in Kargil and now Rafale in Sindoor, we can say Spectra is now (*) more than a self defense system.

(*) : Spectra was initiated in the 80's. As all the Rafale project it was imagined so as to be easily upgraded (as the radar PESA => AESA, the engine with improvements just by replacing one or some of the 21 modules, the calculation units...). The 2020 Spectra is far more potent than the 1999 one. Just with GaN antennas instead of AsGa, but not only.
