Test run of AI-based baggage screening

Joy Sengupta | TNN | Updated: Jan 11, 2020, 08:46 IST

PUNE: The airport authorities are conducting a trial of an artificial intelligence powered baggage screening solution, ‘Baggage AI’, which is supposed to ease the work of the airport authorities as well the CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) when it comes to baggage scanning during security check-in.

“Baggage AI is an artificial intelligence (AI) based solution developed to enhance security at airports. It is the first-of-its-kind threat detection system for security x-ray machines. This AI software technology can automatically detect various objects and other threats from the x-ray images produced during the screening of baggage and alert operators,” Pune airport director Ajay Kumar told TOI.

Himanshu Arora, the co-founder of the startup (Dimensionless Technologies) that developed the system, said, “There are many small things like a lighter, vaping machine and more which do not appear prominently in an x-ray scan. Baggage AI can detect these objects in the luggage and show them prominently with the help of shades and colour. The trial run has been ongoing for almost a month now.”

Kumar said, “The Airports Authority of India (AAI) had organized an ‘Innovate for airport’ programme under the Startup India initiative. Innovative solutions for airports from over 350 startups across India were screened and eight were selected to implement their solutions at various airports of the country. Of these solutions, Baggage AI is presently under trail at Pune airport.”

Yes. Most likely from OFB or BEML. I think even Mahindra makes MPVs.

Why not from private firms? IA is already using enough Aditya MPV's in Kashmir
