Pakistan AirForce : Updates & Discussions

I gotta say. the pakistan military does seem like they do a better job at utilising their limited resources, they upgrade just enough to neutralise us from having some huge advantage and just buy the rest from China or Turkey. In a way, it's a good thing that pakistan has allies like Turkey and China who supplies them advanced weapons, else some of our baba's who lack vision, wouldn't put the necessary focus on our r&d and industries to level the playing field which will make our own industry a global power in the future.

Long term credit + roll overs and write offs.

PAF is looking to beef up its AD. Clearly old semi active Spada-2000 didn't work for them in may 2025. In fact, other than that, they only had 1 system of HQ9BE lacking adequate capability to protect their airbases. HQ17AE and HQ16FE procurement seems to be an attempt to close the gap. Although there is doubt how effective HQ17AE can be when dealing with high end threats like brahmos, it is more agile and responsive than Spada-2000. However, i don't think it was designed to deal with something like Brahmos.

HQ16FE seems good fit for that. Although it retain the old designation, it is basically a new gen SAM. (or as PLA calls it, fourth gen SAM system) It brings new AESA fire control radar and active seeker interceptor with lateral thrusters. (Departing from HQ16B's PESA radar and semi active interceptor.) But all that makes it expensive. According to a previous Hindustan Times article, PAF has ordered two HQ16FE. Far fewer than needed to protect its 13 air bases.

So likely that they will employ HQ16FE the same way they employed 1 HQ9BE battery as it got the range. Attempting forward SAM ambushes in combination with its own air assets to threaten/deter high value enemy fighter jets with tight emission control and rapid rotation. While base defense left to HQ17AE.

At some point, we can also expect to see the CAMM-ER in a GBAD version entering service with PAF/PA. It is already onboard PN Milgem corvettes.

As an aside, the Brits are making a killing selling LMM to India and CAMM to Pak. Except they are routing the sale to Pak via MBDA Italia.

@Kimjongun PAF striking INS Vikrant? Pakistani drones hitting Rastrapathi Bhavan? PAF hitting S400 jamming satellites and launching cyber strikes???? PAF hitting 32 IAF bases???

Hahaha haha hahahaha.

Man, you guys are more inbr3d than I thought 🤣. Can't even manufacture a microwave but dreaming of jamming Indian satellites. Can't even build an app but capable of launching cyber strikes. 🤣😂🤡. Only in cheap AI produced videos can you dream of even doing these things.

Max range? Guidance type? Weight?
I think a 100km max - could be lower , Guidance is IIR as seen by the seeker . Weight is not known . there was an old document when FAAZ was under pylon testing afaik .
Also by the looks of it , it has a new motor and seeker . IIR seeker isnt present on the SD10//PL12 . While the motor looks fresh and with a better burn .

Kindly stop tagging people to feel good of yourself .
Secondly PAF has its fair share of blunders , PR like this specific post is one of them .
I dont buy the Electricity grid and 32 airbase claim neither the hacking But i do buy its claim of dominating the IAF in A2A . so please refrain from BS like this .

Yes it has 100km max range.

It's most probably an IIR version of modernized PL-12.

Still good as it looks like modification is done by NASTAP inhouse.

A ground launch version will have 30-40 km range. More than enough range for IIR seeker version.

The motor difference is clear huh , IIR seeker too .
Camera has role. Also i mentioned modernised.

Rocket propellent chnages, so is grain geometry.

Pl12 intial range was around 70-80km.

And i would say focus on fins design, match completely to Pl12. Tail fins are very weird and unconventional.

How many newer missiles have such fins ? NONE except faaz

By the way, china has a missile named Pl11ae which was a bvr missile with IR/IIR seeker option as well. so they have experience in this field too.

Don't know why DRDO isn't developing an IIR air to missile. Historically its the IIR missile from jets had kill score than BVR missiles, in an intense war,

I guess no support and demand from IAF.

DRDO needs AON to develope something from govt money.

It's because most fight were in WVR range, ROE also demanded visual confirmation before attack.

But i guess BVR now dominates, IIR missile was previously very undesirable for BVR. As half of time it used to chase sun or flares, but after IIR, everything changes.

But after stealth, HOJ and triangulation of enemy jets using their emission, active emission become dangerous.

So an IIR seeker is definitely needed for BVR, but IAF being IAF will prefer not ask DRDO and them import Mica-IR(NG) from france.

Don't know much about it. But we struggled a lot with NAG, which was using iir I think.

The IAF has acquired both ARH and IIR versions of the MICA. So there is no immediate requirement for a medium range IIR AAM.

Plus ASRAAM itself is a near BVR weapon at over 25km range which is being license built in India.
