Pakistan AirForce : Updates & Discussions

I gotta say. the pakistan military does seem like they do a better job at utilising their limited resources, they upgrade just enough to neutralise us from having some huge advantage and just buy the rest from China or Turkey. In a way, it's a good thing that pakistan has allies like Turkey and China who supplies them advanced weapons, else some of our baba's who lack vision, wouldn't put the necessary focus on our r&d and industries to level the playing field which will make our own industry a global power in the future.

Long term credit + roll overs and write offs.

PAF is looking to beef up its AD. Clearly old semi active Spada-2000 didn't work for them in may 2025. In fact, other than that, they only had 1 system of HQ9BE lacking adequate capability to protect their airbases. HQ17AE and HQ16FE procurement seems to be an attempt to close the gap. Although there is doubt how effective HQ17AE can be when dealing with high end threats like brahmos, it is more agile and responsive than Spada-2000. However, i don't think it was designed to deal with something like Brahmos.

HQ16FE seems good fit for that. Although it retain the old designation, it is basically a new gen SAM. (or as PLA calls it, fourth gen SAM system) It brings new AESA fire control radar and active seeker interceptor with lateral thrusters. (Departing from HQ16B's PESA radar and semi active interceptor.) But all that makes it expensive. According to a previous Hindustan Times article, PAF has ordered two HQ16FE. Far fewer than needed to protect its 13 air bases.

So likely that they will employ HQ16FE the same way they employed 1 HQ9BE battery as it got the range. Attempting forward SAM ambushes in combination with its own air assets to threaten/deter high value enemy fighter jets with tight emission control and rapid rotation. While base defense left to HQ17AE.

At some point, we can also expect to see the CAMM-ER in a GBAD version entering service with PAF/PA. It is already onboard PN Milgem corvettes.

As an aside, the Brits are making a killing selling LMM to India and CAMM to Pak. Except they are routing the sale to Pak via MBDA Italia.
