Lok Sabha passes Citizenship Bill amidst Opposition outcry

BJP-RSS is now threatening to kick out a Kargil war veteran, sure he wasn't disloyal to Bharat. For Rabid Hindutva, the philosophy of loyalty and patriotism keeps changing as frequently as PM Modi changes his Kurta. Tomorrow Non Hindi speaking communities like malayalees, Tamils or bengalees will be deemed disloyal. Such shifty loyalty tests will not serve the people of this country, which is why we decided citizenship back when the constitution was being drafted and being promulgated. Hindus, Muslims or any community who chose to place their loyalties to foreign country after 1947 cannot and should not be given citizenship and must helped to go back and settle down in their country of origin.

This is my reward for serving country: Kargil war veteran declared foreigner, detained in Assam

It's time to counter you with one single fact not to prove my self correct but just to make you aware about what NRC is.
Here is the list of documents required to register for NRC for ASSAM

Any ONE document required:
  • 1951 NRC
  • Electoral roll(s) up to 24 March (midnight), 1971
  • Land and tenancy records
  • Citizenship certificate
  • Permanent residential certificate
  • Refugee registration certificate
  • Any government issued license/certificate
  • Government service/ employment certificate
  • Bank or post office accounts
  • Birth certificate
  • State educational board or university educational certificate
  • Court records/processes
  • Passport
  • Any LIC policy
Since the citizenship cut-off date in Assam is midnight of March 24, 1971, all these documents could not be from a date later than that. This meant an Assam resident who didn’t have any 1971 documents that mention her name can show any one of the documents named in this list if it mentions her father or grandfather.
But such applicants then had to establish their link with their father/grandfather by furnishing one more document to be picked from List B, which included eight options:
  • Birth certificate
  • Land document
  • Board/university certificate
  • Bank/LIC/post office records
  • Circle officer/gaon panchayat secretary certificate in case of married women
  • Electoral roll
  • Ration card
  • Any other legally acceptable document
If some one does not have any one of the above, well then either declare that person dead or unborn. A country where people don't have records then that country can't develop.

Other reason for NRC is currently government does not consider self employed as employed, now since many are self employed so they are not subjected to any tax, no matter how much they are earning. That money remain unaccounted. So before that, there should be atleast one record of citizens of India or those who are residing in India.

Secondly when refugees came to India after 1971 war, why did the government not register them or grant them any legal document? And If they have then there should be record of that as well in the government.

When Indira Gandhi imposed her emergency, there was widespread support for her from ordinary citizens who still swooning from her durga act in East Pakistan and the first nuclear test. Still students and citizens who cared for the constitution, democracy and rule of law and came out and protested with what they could. Because they believed the price of freedom was eternal vigilance and vigilant we always must be...
indira Gandhi declared emergency when she was found guilty of using mal practice to win an election.
She dint want to listen to the court or follow the ruling.

please tell me of any instance where the present govt did not follow any ruling of the court.

by your logic. Any govt with a big mandate that does what was in the manifesto will declare emergency.

I have been following your posts. You should look up “confirmation bias”. Your posts reek of it.

whatever happens in the news, it’s the fault of bjp rss. No reason, no logical argument . Just call them fascist and blame them. When asked for any logical reason, call yourself samajhdaar and others na samajh

Roads don't kill people, but communally indoctrinated mobs baying for the blood of the people they hate, do kill people. I understand indoctrinated sanghis, like some in this very forum, are itching to mass murder innocent citizen, but that is not correct and must be stopped at any cost.
You should be careful while labelling someone as itching to mass murder innocents. You are absolutely no one to put such serious accusations

Thanks for the post, but not sure how this thing is relevant. However this illustrates the fact that, as claimed by its critics, this exercise, if it is extended to the rest of the country, is meany to harass the poor of this country, who at any rate are unlikely to have any document related to their fathers/grandfathers. Since my dad was in the MEG, i can certainly tell you Indian army does not hire people directly from the Yellow pages. MEG does extensive background check for any recruits before they are taken in as sappers and if it came to commissioned officers their antecedents have to be beyond reproach. The case of the detained war veteran is an example of how even genuine citizens will be psychologically harassed to prove their citizenship.

100% of all poors in India were living on MNREGA NREGA started by congress, to give free ration. All poor have ration cards.

Secondly, they can also show their electoral roll, and if they don't have even that, then who was voting past so many years? Finally all leaders have mentioned ghareeb ghareeb ghareeb x 1 million times. And if Ghareeb is not on electoral roll then that raises quention mark on our electoral politics and democracy!

it's a contradiction statement sir, never make that statement that poors have no documents. We will be in great trouble then, especially congress!

Quite a selective & devious readings of facts. The emergency wasn't precipitated due to the students unrest. Nor was IG at the height of her popularity. There were a whole series of unrelated incidents which converged at around the same time bringing diverse groups of people with a grievance against the government under a common banner headed by Jayprakash Narayan.

You had the oil shock of 1973 which shot up oil prices pushing inflation & thus prices of essential commodities well beyond the reach of the common man. This brought about stagflation contributing to the notion that economics was badly handled. Then came the George Fernandes led Rail protests which saw all rail services paralysed throughout the length & breadth of the country which was brutally put down.Incidentally , the strike was for better wages which believe it or not was frozen at 1947 levels .

This also co incided with the Nav Nirman movement of students from Gujarat against the state administration ruled by the Congress followed by the Bihar students agitation on local issues against the state government which also happened to be Congress. Incidentally Laloo Yadav, Sushil Modi & Nitish Rai were all the stars of this movement.

The trigger for larger protests was IG's refusal to quit following an adverse verdict by the Allahabad HC on a suit filed for electoral malpractice by Raj Narain upheld by the SC which set aside her election and barred her from contesting elections for 6 years. This led to widespread calls for civil disobedience by Morarji Desai & JP. The Emergency was imposed. Post the lifting of Emergency and polls that followed, the ragtag Janata Party seized power. Indira Gandhi herself lost both the seats she contested and the Congress was decimated throughout the nation except for the South which voted in the Congress contributing nearly 2/3 of their total tally in the LS.

The protests against Indira Gandhi started years before she imposed the emergency, esp the nav nirman movement in Gujarat( which incidentally PM Modi took part in). Like i said this is not an anti-govt protests and as such must be seen in retrospect to the controversial CAA and NRC. If you have been following my posts, you may noted the anguish with which i have reported BJP's govt disdain for the constitutional guaranteed right to protests. BJP may be or may not be fascists, but all fascist detest dissent and would like to crush dissent with the brutal of force at their disposal.

My friend, like our friend screambowl has posted, govt issued docs will not sufficient to prove your citizenship as per the NRC exercise in Assam. If govt issues doc alone was enough, do you think a subedar in the Indian Army would not have had the proper doc. This is a country were thousands of bonafide citizens, many of them educated and well to do, who find their names missing from the electoral lists on a regular basis and then have to undergo a whimsical torturous process to have their names added. Imagine this kind of bureaucratic goof up happening on a national level. This will singe both poor and rich, rich will getaway with bribes, but what will the poor do.

Sorry if i hurt your RSS indoctrinated heart. This is nothing but a RSS, wannabe Nazi agenda to divide the country and set fellow Indians against one another. If a war veteran , who served his country with distinction and was found eligible by the govt to be entrusted with highest of national responsibilities, is found to be a non citizen, i think that explains the depth to which the RSS subverted institutions in this country....
saying RSS, Hitler a hundred times won't change facts.
BJP-RSS is now threatening to kick out a Kargil war veteran,
This is a factually wrong statement.

Others, please don't indulge in personal attacks.

The events leading upto the emergency of 75 is ominously dejavu like to the current precarious situation in the country. There is a looming economic crisis, govt has enacted controversial legislation, and now has popular protests in the reckoning. This is the kind of tinder box situation that forces democratically elected govts, with an authoritarian figure heads to take the unconstitutional route to thwart dissent. lets hope Modi will not repeat 1975, but don't keep our hopes high.

The difference is that the status quo is stable. There is no threat Modi cabinet from the judiciary or legislative. The whole protest will stop and become fruitless if tomorrow Govt says we will not implement the act without SC agreeing to it. The economy is bound to recover after the cycle.

Protests in India never stop. They are and will always be there.
to link every protest with upcoming emergency is not correct.
Your anguish is well noted. But the reason for the anguish seems to stem from bigotry of rss and gate towards bjp instead of any logical or rational argument.

almost all arguments to support your anguish is aimed to paint someone a killer/hitter/nazi with no evidence whatsoever. The evidence provided is only allegation.
If you change the word rss/bjp with any Islamic entity, the poster would be called a bigot.

Well just before Mrs gandhi imposed emergency, nobody guessed our democracy would come to sucha passe. Lets pray Mr Modi does not impose such a test upon us. Like i said this is not an anti- govt protest, nor is anyone asking PM Modi to quit office. However the unhinged crackdown on protesters shows both the govt and democracy are skating on thin ice. Lets just pray we wont trip and falter.

Those artificially manufactured protests are already declining as we speak. The economy remains a worry though. The rest of your post is a classic example of fear mongering much like what the opposition has been up to since 2014. Take it from someone with more than a passing knowledge of Indian politics, the day the Muslims hit the streets with slogans like Islam ka matlab kya, la ila'ha ila'la, Hindu / Hindutva se azaadi, kaafiron se azaadi, the electorate was already polarised. If central elections are right be held today, you better not be a betting man.

This wasn't the case before the emergency. Most of the electorate opposed IG for they saw her as power hungry for not resigning her post once the SC passed an adverse verdict. Her imposition of The Emergency and the harsh repressive measures undertaken only ruined her chances once elections were declared.

My friend no one is linking Modi govt to any hypothetical emergency. My original argument was against our friend Deathstar's contention that popularly elected leaders cannot do unconstitutional acts. Our history bears out that such a thing is not true.

Balyan was given an SOS and Hindus from all over scrambled to Mujjafernagar to help Hindus there in over 30 trucks within 3 hrs. That was the mobilisation of Jaats, Tyagis, Brahmins and other Hindu castes to take on these rioters. Those 30 truck loads did not join the fight but stood behind the UP Police and after that what happened is known to all. These 30 truckloads were armed to teeth with legal and illegal weapons. There is reason why the muslims of that city have given a DD to city DM for the damages caused on 20th Dec.. Its a lesson for all hindus. be united and stand together with eachother.

You are right BJP thrives on the politics of polarizing and we have dozens of manufactured riots in various parts of Indian which proves why BJP knows it can win through polarizing, so what if Hindus and Muslim blood is let. Polarization runs deep in this country and this attenuated when Indians find Muslim religious slogan problematic, but Hindu religious sloganeering is kosher. Polarized minds easily fall prey to the politics of divide and rule. You know this is a old pony trick in India and almost always bears first.

However, a video from the campus, in which the audio is clearer than the videos in which the false claims have been made, makes it clear that the students were chanting slogans against Hindutva, and not against Hindus. Apart from Hindutva, the slogans were directed against VD Savarkar and the BJP.

Don't make fun of it. Your forefathers have probably never fought these people in history. My forefathers did. And we know how to deal with these people. The most well read and educated muslim even today is frozen in the mindset of 622AD or Hijri 01. Once you experience that mindset, you will not make fun of me here.
