Kolkata-class and Visakhapatnam-class Destroyers: News & Discussions

I think this might be P-15C based render,(I guess)
  1. Bow of this render looks almost identical to P-15 A/B design( though has a wider beam)
  2. Due to unavailability of Ukrainian ZM Dt-59 GTs, they could be powered by 4 GE LM-2500s (exhaust stacks looks identical to P-17 series, powered by LM-2500s), with 4 diesel gen sets
  3. The super structure mounted radar might be the 1.5-2m X- band array for VLSRSAM, with the primary being MFSTAR, though there is a lack of long range surveillance radar like Lanza-N
  4. based on naval news report there is also a mention of cooperation with Japanese for P-18 class(probably), and this render does not include the UNICORN mast.

The collab between Japan & IN is still at a nascent stage as per MDL (which is just downplaying the issue for now obviously given we got mou signed for the unicorn mast), They mentioned either P15 Charlie or NGD to be up next. Interesting prospect for either proposal, and going by the habit of incremental improvement + need to include indigenous systems which route is chosen will be interesting.

Highly doubt the P-15 narrow beam could accommodate superstucture+ mast mounted arrays. Topside weight with MF-STAR alone is massive (~1500kg per radar face iirc)

Besides, the superstructure/deck house is already sub-optimal with its two deck arrangement.

Power requirements will be significantly higher. For this reason, the USN came up with the new Flight 3 version of its workhorse Arleigh Burke class DDG.

Also, replacing the Zorya GT-53s with LM2500s would essentially mean a whole new ship class.
