Islamic Republic of Pakistan : News, Discussions & Updates

No they weren't. You weren't even born back then. What do you know?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA that's a dumb argument. So does one have to be born at a time to be able to read the history or access the widely available sources from that time period? Even if you were born in that time period and living right there, how reasonable or legitimate can your arguments be considered when figures like Hekmatyar, Haqqani, Mullah Omar, Zia and Hamid Gul are likely heroes for you?

Taliban were as the name suggests, students of religious seminaries in Pakistan and Afghanistan. They were mainly war orphans who were given accommodation and food by us the Pakistanis during Soviet Afghan war, and before you start, I may also mention that the US aid all the way during Soviet Afghan war was less than 90 USD per Afghan refugee per year. Not even enough to feed them basic food for a few months, let alone an year. The burden of feeding them, clothing them and sheltering them was taken by us the common people of Pakistan and charities like that of Hafiz saeed.

Answering this separately since you added it later.

I'm talking about the Taliban when they were at their peak, including ruling over Afghanistan. I have already mentioned that there were many younger madrassah students who came back radicalized from Pakistan; but the leftover Islamist Pashtuns in Afghanistan after the Soviet invasion and Civil War didn't vanish into thin air.

As for your barely relevant segue to Pakistani "charity" for Afghan refugees, I like how you leave out the fact that you radicalized so many of those refugees, turned them around, and used them as strategic assets throughout the region.

Dont yaar. One simply has to google and they can see it for themselves - unless they want to continue burying their heads in the sand.
Pakistan has no doubt its fair share of sh1t - its good to bring it out and discuss. What i object to is low IQ posts insinuating ALL Pakistan citizens are cut from the same cloth.
Hell if i posted 5% crap i read or believed about the stuff coming out of India - id be here all day.
Also can you un-ban my account on that place on FB? I have already told you but nothing happened, its a bit sad. I have no intention to post there any further but blocking my comments by a ban is as stupid as it gets.

What gives?

Cheers, Doc

Like i said, i will write a detailed response. I wont put any google INTERNET links as all my comment will be from own memory. You can believe it or leave it, up to you.

The difference between you and @STEPHEN COHEN is he hates PDF. you hate Pakistan. They are two different things. When you meet the other side youll realize they are no different than us.
fair enough ,
you are entitled to have your opinion
but my opinion is based on my first hand experience
i worked with a lot of afghani and pakistanis during one of my transmission and distribution project in afghanistan which was based on USAID and expertise was provided by GOI along with helping them in capacity building
despite facing so much of difficulties i find afghani absolutely optimistic and full of goodwill ,whereas pakistani as usual ........
indian goodwill has percolated down and deep inside the afghanistan from herat to mazar-e sharif

I dont hate Pakistan ; But at the same time we should ALWAYS be clear in our Mind
That ALL pakistanis want to DEFEAT India and Take Kashmir away

Whether it is hafiz Saeed ; or Pervez Hoodbuoy the educationist
or economists who want to increase Trade with India or Sports and Film people

They all want Pakistan to defeat India Militarily

So we can NEVER trust Pakistan

And at the same time we should be prepared to Retaliate Heavily against them

We must also remember that if some people are calling for Peace with India
then they are doing so Only because of economic compulsions

UN wants consensual sex decriminalised in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: In a surprise move, Pakistan has officially ‘noted’ a recommendation made during the third Universal Periodic Review (UPR) which suggest repealing laws barring adultery and non-marital consensual sex.

It has also noted, among hundreds of other recommendations, others which suggest decriminalising such activities, and ensuring punishment for all perpetrators of violence against participants and those who may call for such violence, including members and leaders of jirgas.

An official working closely with the Ministry of Human Rights confirmed that the recommendation was officially ‘noted’. “Pakistan adopted the third cycle of UPR last month. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) will issue the official document in coming days,” they said, adding that the document which is publically available was issued after Pakistan’s review in November 2017.

In absence of payment mechanism, Pakistan loses Iran market

The absence of banking channels cast a pall over Pakistan-Iran trade, which nosedived from $1.16 billion in 2009-10 to $318.69 million in 2015-16. Pakistan’s exports to Iran fell from $207.19 million to $35.48 million while imports from Iran decreased from $962.13 million to $283.21 million over this period, according to data compiled by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

Not surprisingly, the bilateral trade has not taken off in the wake of the lifting of sanctions on Iran. In 2016-17, the bilateral trade was $300 million including $29 million of exports from Pakistan and $271 million of imports from Iran.

Despite the sanctions, some other Iran’s trading partners, notably India, were able to put in place an alternative payment mechanism and thus they were able to sustain their trade with Iran.

exactly
and this is the crux of my hatred towards them
i have seen many indians who just in order to ensure that pakistanis dont feel uncomfortable will go to a great length and even accept their point of view no matter how ridiculous it is
those are the very ppl who are always willing to prostrate and devoid of self respect
the fact we are facing an enemy who is hell bent on destroying us ,whose very foundation is based on hatred
and who knows no civility, has been involved in gruesome acts which are never accepted in the civilized world
an army
which has been involved in mutilation of our soldiers (from kargil onwards) and repeatedly carrying out bomb blast in india .which was cauight with its pant down so many times, terrorist organisations are the veritable arm of this terrorist army
if they have suffered due to frankenstein monster they have created ,why should we have any sympathies for their suffering
will it reduce our sufferings???
its a rogue nation which has to be taken care of by creating a suitable condition for self implosion.
if indians have still failed to grasp *censored* duplicity of this rogue country then we are doomed

the US State department conveyed to the Pakistan Embassy in Washington DC that if it does not ease the travel of the US diplomats, reciprocal restrictions will be imposed on the Pakistan diplomats in the US from May 1, including restrictions on travel beyond 50 miles of the city of posting.

‘No compensation for Pakistani men’ run over by US diplomat

ISLAMABAD- A US embassy spokesman has ruled out the impression that the United States will compensate the families of the April 7 accident victims in Pakistan.

“US is not going to compensate any heir of victim family and embassy hasn’t made any offer in this regard,” Richard Snelsire told the Morning Mail.

“It is just an accident and we expressed deep sympathy, sadness over the loss of life,” he added.

Trade deficit widens to $27.3 billion even as Pakistan records higher exports

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan exported goods worth $2.23 billion in March, a figure the Ministry of Commerce said was the highest level in four years, reflecting a massive year-on-year increase of 24.4% or $437 million when compared with the amount in March 2017.

However, the trade deficit still widened 17.3% year-on-year to $27.3 billion in the cumulative nine-month period, surpassing the amount projected for the entire fiscal year, suggesting that worries for economic managers is far from over.

Their export grew by 24.4% !!!

Thats something good for them and will help in approaching some foreign banks or IMF for some more debt. Hope they manage to control the BoP crisis which looks inevitable now.

Pashtuns will approach UN if state doesn’t give due rights, says Manzoor Pashteen

Manzoor Pashteen, leader of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) that has recently staged a series of protests against extrajudicial arrests and killings of members of the ethnic minority allegedly by the security forces, has said that the protesters would approach the United Nations (UN) in case the Pakistani state does not give them their due constitutional rights.

“Our next step is to mobilise as many people as possible, to unite and demand our rights under the constitution. We want to settle our demands in court so that we are assured of the agreement. “We want to end this issue within Pakistan, but if it doesn’t happen, then we will take the issue to the United Nations and appeal to the global society to stand with us in these hard times,” Pashteen said in a recent interview with Al Jazeera.

He said, “It’s a miracle that our efforts are still going on.”

The killing of an aspiring model from the community – which makes up about 15 per cent of Pakistan’s 207 million population – in January sparked countrywide protests.

On Sunday, Pashteen led another Pashtun Long March in Peshawar, demanding protection and rights.

According to the Pashtun leader, there were only 22 people with him when he started the protest in March. “But very soon, thousands joined us. We had no idea these many people would join us.,” he said, calling it a miracle.

He said that Pakistan would become stable if the law enforcement and security agencies are held accountable for their actions with checks and balances.

“Extrajudicial killings and missing persons is not unique to Pashtuns. If a commission is formed to solve these issues, it will also benefit others,” he said, adding that if the state can address the grievances of Pashtuns, who have experienced violence and injustice, and yet have protested peacefully, it will set a new precedent.

“If these injustices and mistreatment by institutions against their own people end, then the anger and resentment will also end. People will embrace Pakistan and Pakistan will embrace its people.”

Defending the protest movement, Pashteen said that their protests are constitutional.

“The people who do not want peace have no respect for the constitution, and it seems the Pakistani institutions do not want to work under the constitution,” he said. “This is a crucial matter, and we need to think about why this is happening.”

He condemned the labelling of the protesting Pashtuns as foreign agents working for Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), India’s spy agency, or the Afghan intelligence agency – National Directorate of Security.

We are simple people talking about peace and harmony. Our agenda is peace, and if their agenda is that atrocities should continue, this is wrong. How is demanding a peaceful life part of a foreign agenda?”

The Pashtun leader said the movement will not resort to violence even though attempts were being made to sabotage its peaceful agenda.

Exclusive: Pakistan could face U.S. aid cuts over human trafficking - sources

ISLAMABAD/WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Trump administration is warning Pakistan it could lose U.S. civilian aid worth tens of millions of dollars this year if Washington finds that the South Asian nation has not done enough to combat human trafficking, U.S. officials said.

An aid cutback would deal a fresh blow to U.S.-Pakistan relations following President Donald Trump’s suspension in January of some $2 billion in U.S. security assistance over what Trump said was Islamabad’s failure to crack down on Afghan insurgent sanctuaries used for attacks into Afghanistan.

A large portion of U.S. civilian aid - $265 million in 2017, according to a source at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad – could be withheld if the State Department puts Pakistan on a list of worst global offenders in human trafficking in an annual report due out in June.

The funding is relatively modest for the size of Pakistan’s economy. But Islamabad could suffer a heavier jolt if Washington also decides to oppose new assistance from international financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
