Indian Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Developments

The Army’s ‘Agnibaan’ drone-fuze breakthrough
  • Purpose: Converts dumb rockets and artillery-type ammunition into smart, drone-deployable payloads, reducing reliance on imports and enhancing lethality.
  • Features:
    • Integrated into the drone’s flight controller for resistance to enemy electronic warfare jamming.
    • Two operating modes: air burst (for troops in open) and impact mode.
  • Benefits: Improves soldier safety and flexibility, reduces costs and inventory requirements, and can adapt various conventional ammunitions (e.g., mortar rounds) into drone payloads.

Meanwhile, sources said that DAC is also looking at solar- powered High-Altitude Pseudo Satellite Vehicle (HAPS). The National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) has already tested one, while the DRDO and Bangalore-based NewSpace Research and Technologies (NRT) have their respective versions.

An HAPS is a high-end version of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that can operate in the stratosphere for long duration for surveillance and reconnaissance. It can operate at an altitude of about 20 km, much higher than the flight path of commercial planes. It is considered much cheaper to deploy and operate than satellites. Besides, no launch vehicle or rocket is needed to launch it.

Only a few global players like the US, the UK, Germany, South Korea, New Zealand and Japan have invested in such technologies.

Does he walk the talk? Asking, becoz I don't know, who the gentleman speaking is.

Unmanned combat drone cleared

The DPB meeting also cleared the design and development of an unmanned combat drone by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). This is a long term effort as it is likely to take some years to have it ready for use.
