Indian Railways Junction

The aim is to have all the main routes fully electrified (they carry 86-90% of passenger traffic) by 2023 end and rest (like J&K , NE) by 2026.

Around 12 locomotives have been rolled out by Alsthom plant.
Full electrification by 2023 including NE & J&K. All diesel locos expected to withdraw from active duty by 2030. Close to 30 WAG12B in service.

Cannot say what he means by rail section. The track length is to be 498 km.

In the next phase it's planned to connect Leh to Srinagar also. Maybe that length, but it doesn't make sense as it's not approved as of yet. Maybe he's referring road distance from Bilaspur to Leh. But 1500km seems too much for that too. Cannot say.

But one intersting news. This was supposed to be Final Location Survey , with deadline of October 2020. Seems the China thing accelerated it. Next stage should be final approval after which land acquisition can begin.
Number of lines on existing route, difference between route & track.

Are these existing diesel locomotives or the ones coming out fresh from GE factory at Madhepura?

Indian Railways' NFR zone to operate two of its trains with HOG technology, will save on energy bill
Indian Railways' North East Frontier Railway(NFR) zone has successfully started to operate two of its train with Head on Generation (HOG) technology.

The two train are, 05956 Delhi – Dibrugarh Brahmaputra Mail Spl and 02502 New Delhi – Agartala Rajdhani Spl started running with HOG technology for the journey up to New Jalpaiguri.

During the return journey also both the trains will run on HOG technology. Now, generator cars of both the trains will be kept in shutdown condition from Delhi to New Jalpaiguri and back. The entire electrical load of AC, lights, fans, and other electrical equipments of the complete rake will be taken from electric locomotive running on electric traction, as a result of which a lot of diesel will be saved during the journey.

The new technology HOG will be available at ₹6 per unit as compared to end EOG system, in which cost of power is ₹22 per unit.

According to a statement by the NFR, " The new technology will not only help to reduce the power costs for running trains but will also help provide a cleaner environment for our future generations to come. The diesel fuel saving in these two trains on this account is expected to be around 1132 Kilo Litre per annum, thereby saving diesel fuel cost of approx. Rs. 7.16 crore per annum.

LHB coaches are being modified to run on Head on Generation system.

LHB coaches are being modified to run on Head on Generation system.
The present LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches have been designed to run on End on Generation (EOG) system with two power cars employing two DG sets on either end. They are being modified to run on Head on Generation (HOG) technology. In NFR out of total 49 LHB rakes, 23 rakes have been made as HOG compliant and shall be put in operation as and when the train services are started. The remaining 26 LHB rakes have also been planned to be converted as HOG compliant during the current year 2020-21.

In this new system power supply will be tapped from overhead power lines through pantograph to the train engine which will then be distributed to the coaches for train lighting, air conditioning, fans, and other equipment that runs on the electrical power supply.

As the entire N.F. Railway portion has been sanctioned for Railway Electrification; the trains of N.F. Railway with LHB coaches are being modified in various depots and trial run are also being conducted. There will be better reliability due to the reduced number of power generating equipment, low maintenance, and reduced train weight.

The power generator cars which are being used presently consume about 100 lts diesel per hour, so there is substantial operating expenditure apart from huge noise, fume emission during the run.

With the changeover to this new HOG technology, there will be huge savings in fuel bills, thereby saving precious foreign exchange towards the import of fuel. Moreover, diesel generators also pollute the air by producing about 1724.6 tons of carbon dioxide and 7.48 tons of Nitrogen oxide per annum apart from producing about 100db of noise. With new HOG technology, there will be zero-emission of carbon dioxide and Nitrogen oxide apart from it being noiseless.

Some titbits from a discussion from some senior railfans.

Approx 11,000 km of routes have been classified as HDN network.
Delhi to HWH , Delhi to NE, Delhi to Mumbai, Delhi to Chennai, Mumbai to HWH and HWH to Chennai are the routes.

These routes are working on over capacity. Means there is no room for increase of trains or their speed in these sections.

These ~18% of the routes carry 60% of all passenger traffic on IR.

Therefore DFCs along these sections are a 100% priority. The second priority is 100% doubling and electrification.

Once these things are achieved, Delhi to Mumbai and Delhi to HWH will be upgraded to 160kmph and all others 130kmph for whole routes by 2023 and 160kmph by 2028.

Biggest i can remember is Hero
Hero has no tech, going for bankruptcy in couple of years. Only saying grace is Splendor, designed by Japanese engineers with a reliable 93 cc engine made on TOT with Honda. Don’t go by decent volume of sales. Its total clusterfuck.
Post Split , they failed to even design a decent frame, let alone any engine.

Better examples are Tatas and Mahindras or even TVS and Bajaj

Indian Railways to RFID Tag all wagons by December 2022
Indian Railways is on a mission to RFID Tag all wagons by December 2022.

The Indian Railways will complete this process of fitting radio-frequency identification tags (RFID) in all the wagons by December 2022. These tags will be used for tracking all wagons.

So far 23000 wagons have been covered under RFID project. The Project is still in progress and continuing, although this work has been slowed for some time due to pandemic Covid 19. Government has fixed the deadline for fitting of RFID in all the wagons of Indian Railway till December 2022.

Currently, Indian Railway is maintained such data manually, which leaves scope for errors. Using RFID devices will be easier for the railways to know the exact position of all the wagons, locomotives and coaches.

While the RFID tag will be fitted in the rolling stock, trackside readers will be installed at stations and key points along the tracks to read the tag from a distance of about two meters and transmit the wagon identity over a network to a central computer. In this way, each moving wagon can be identified and its movement tracked.

With the introduction of RFID, the issue of shortage of wagons, locomotives and coaches is expected to be addressed in a more transparent and expeditious manner.
