Indian Army Artillery Systems : News and Updates

This is why I hate indian X defence space. Too much noise for the sake of it based on surface level observation.

Won't be surprised if most of these are paid tattus of we all know who.

Good news though, we need more than a 1,500 + tracked Artillery inventory in long run. I would say we better induct more tracked artillery than tanks going forward.

There should be a BFL SPH-Tr in development. Baba Kalyani won't lie for nothing if he himself said it. But he shouldn't expect the Army to accept it when there's clearly no need right now. Good for exports tho.

And I was just mocking the others for passing AI-defiled pics of some randomass old paper off as legit to their viewers, then feigning ignorance under the "representational" excuse. Bro then claimed he'd had the paper for a long, long time.

Yeah, no. You didn't.

Also I shouldn't be saying this but the phulsapot atmanirbhar dudes sometimes operate like a cult and it's starting to get insufferable at this point. Everything about them is just based on feelings.. it's like a kid playing with toys.

Btw how much investment does it generally takes to run a barrel manufacturing facility? Irrc there are only 2 companies that do it in India.

Noticed that for private sectors initial orders are small to get the time for technology absorption, then later big orders to get the necessary profit out of the deal..

335 numbers if ordered , with significant Indian content, L&T will profit.

Earlier out PSU s will get large orders, by the time they increase Indian content, orders will become small.

Even for Rafale , 36 and 26 ordered before something big could materialize.

How many MGS/MARG army has ordered ? Aon is for just 300

Infact i would say, except for BF's ultra light howitzer, every howitzer should truck mounted or tracked

Hope that army orderd over 1000 wheeled howitzer

With K9 around there's no space for a new SPH until next modernization. Can't expect the IA to run multiple supply chains inside enemy territory.

But FRCV could change things over time, like how Arjuns are getting the Catapult.

Vektrex a new 155 mm maneuvering, precision-guided artillery munition developed by General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS).

Advantages: two to three times further than conventional 155 mm artillery projectiles' range (120 to 200 km+ range), maneuvering strike, and GPS-degraded environments. 39- and 52-caliber 155 mm artillery systems, a lower cost-per-effect alternative to traditional tactical ballistic missile systems

This seems to be overkill, Tech. We should try ramjet-based artillery for 150 km.

Initial order was 100.
Then next order was another 100.
Now 335 being contemplated.
I suspect there will be one more follow on for 279 ?

All plans were nixed by the cancellation of the Catapult and the new government’s decision in November 2014 to purchase 155 mm guns with a range of 40 km under the “Buy & Make Indian” programme. The plan is to acquire 814 guns for the Indian Army – 100 would be acquired off the shelf while the remainder of the 714 guns would be made in India.

So no Indian SPHs for at least another decade? Somewhere in the multiverse, there exists an India currently exporting fully indigenized Bhim Mk2s to the Koreans.

There were separate requirement for 814 MGS, then 200 Tracked SPH and 180 wheeled SPH.

The 180 wheeled SPH plan got shelved. And possibly added onto the tracked SPH.

Further the 200 SPH didn't account for systems along LAC. Therefore an additional 100 or so pieces. Add the 40 shleved arjun based catapults.

That's nearly 520 peices of tracked SPH, exactly what the Army is trying to get K9s of.

The 814 truck mounted howitzers are a separate requirement, not affected by tracked acquisition.
