India–United Kingdom relations : Updates

How things change & go back to what it used to be originally - also known as the cyclic nature of time, hence kaalchakra or the wheel of time.

In 1600 Sir Thomas Roe led an English delegation of business men to the court of Mughal Emperor Jehangir offering trinkets & daubles as gifts which were laughed at to secure exclusive trading rights on behalf of the crown QE- I & the EIC - East India Company.

422 yrs later the clock's come full circle. Missed the magic figure by 2 yrs.

Rishi Sunak briefly joins NSA Ajit Doval-UK counterpart's London meet

The High Commission of India has said UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak took part in a meeting between India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and his British counterpart Tim Barrow in London for a while. Doval's trip to London follows his meeting with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in Washington, which took place on Tuesday.

"A special gesture by PM Rishi Sunak to join for a while. NSA dialogue between Sir Tim Barrow and M. Doval at the Cabinet Office. Deeply value PM's assurance of his government's full support to deepen strategic partnership in trade, defence, S&T. Look forward to visit of Sir Tim to India soon," The Indian High Commission said in a tweet.

The meeting comes two days after Doval met the members of a top American India-centric strategic and business advocacy group during which they discussed bilateral ties, particularly in the field of defence, space, and cybersecurity field.

Doval was leading a high-powered delegation to the US.

The board members of the US India Strategic and Partnership Forum (USISPF) met Doval on Wednesday and they also discussed undersea and innovative intelligence, surveillance, building sophisticated reconnaissance systems, and US restrictions on the export of technology, the USISPF said in a statement.

"On a government-to-government level, the recent visit of the NSA and the welcome he has received in the US mark a high point in the defence and strategic relationship between Washington and New Delhi,” USISPF president Mukesh Aghi said.

“It also accentuates the level of trust that the United States has in India, as a key defence partner, despite not being a treaty ally,” he said.

The way I see it , Doval briefs the UK about other issues INCLUDING the ToT on the engine which sees His Majesty's Government & RR get their collective panties into a twist , see the millions of pounds they thought they'd make sprout wings & take flight giving them all a collective fright forcing them back to the drawing board to re configure the whole deal.

Who knows , Doval may have thrown in a sweetner vide the up coming FTA as well if they agree to a proper & better ToT ?What do you have to add Paddy ? @BMD

Bad times ahead for BBC propagandists, I guess.

Both the British government & opposition are lamenting the closure of many NGOs like Greenpeace , Oxfam , Amnesty International etc & "faith based" organisations ( whatever do these mean Paddy ? The same ones where clergymen ask for charity back home , line up underprivileged kids in the daytime to ply them with foodstuff & bum them come night time . The same underprivileged kids some of whom qualify to be members of MENSA whereas the more privileged Paddy clergymen aren't ? ) . @BMD

Joint outcome statement: UK-India round seven FTA negotiations

On 10 February 2023, the United Kingdom and the Republic of India concluded the seventh round of talks for an India-UK FTA.

As with previous rounds, this was conducted in a hybrid fashion - a number of Indian officials travelled to London for negotiations and others attended virtually.

Technical discussions were held across 11 policy areas over 43 separate sessions. They included detailed draft treaty text discussions in these policy areas.

The eighth round of negotiations is due to take place later this Spring.
