I was just reading and about to post the article. Saw your post and thought to make it a reply instead.
retiring them now make sense though........ I think they are evaluating a new fighter jet which will take very short time period of only 30 years........ After evaluation add another quick 10 years for contract signing & than we will have our 2 Squadrons of 4.5++ generation fighter by 2070.

We need 60 squadrons. 10 squadrons of stealth 5/5.5 aircrafts 50-55 4.5+ aircrafts.
Actual requirement for 2.5 front war is 100 squadrons including attrition.
Tejas Mk1a/Mk1b is extremely important for the future of the IAF.
The Pakistanis deep down are scared after Op Sindoor. Us getting the f-35's and f-15EX would give their entire country a mental breakdown. We need a lot of things. First of all we need a better curriculum in our education system that can produce capable skilled domain experts who can fast track new tech and take lead.
Otherwise, do jv and bring 25-50 year old guys for "training".
I too am looking to buy two squadrons of Fifth generations fighter jets, problem is the the platform that is available is junk, the one that is feasible is made by a dickhead , and I am too dumb to have made the efforts to build my own. No one else is sharing thier homework notes with me? Now what? Look east?
Me thinks AMCAs path will be a lot like J20. J20 was initially fitted with 4th gen Russian engines, after which they upgraded the engines and then electronics of the jet year by year. We will initially start with Mk1 with GE414 then induct large numbers of Mk2 and maybe even make a Mk2A in the 2040s.
I think for Mk1 the electronics and avionics will be 5th gen, but it will lack supercruise. The stealth level will also be high, considering the fact jets are becoming missile trucks to hit targets at extended ranges, AMCA Mk1 will be capable of fending off PLAAF planes in Tibet.
China was always open to inducting subpar weapons in past and will do tomorrow too. But i dont think IAF will do the same.We may induct 20 or 40 AMCA woh ge engine, the way we had inducted LCA MK1, but beyond that IAF will not settle an AMC with GE engine.
Me thinks I will be blessed if AMCA even flies before 2199. We do not have any engine for it to fly. And even a 1970s engine will be possible only after 2277.
If MKI's performance was superlative versus J-10 and other Pak assets than Su-57MKI that is tailored for our needs is simply game-changing. It was never Junk, just made to look so because IAF wanted to get over 200 Rafales first and foremost. But now thankfully, they are back on ground and are going to procure what is best for us.
Let's place an order for 36 more Rafale jets in 2026. The 5th generation and MMRCA won't be happening for another 3 to 4 years.

It's a paradox now. Or more like a self sustaining evil cycle. The more you feed it, the more you have to feed it in future , the harder it becomes to detoxify them from addiction.
Everyone knows that most of these loan waiver, free bus rides, free laptop among other things are misused a lot. Intended people very rarely get the benefit. But it's like political correctness has been ingrained in our brains that we don't want a change in the system that we curse. If someone attempts to do it, then we protest, create fear and try to vote em out.
