GTRE Kaveri Engine

Dumb question, but is this engine possible using an existing M88 core, maybe with some EDE-type modification?

Difficult but probably doable. We will need new alloys/coatings for the hot section of the core. It will be expensive but relatively quicker than going for a clean slate design. But there will be almost no margin of growth remaining on such an engine.

AMCA will likely remain in service for 25 to 30 years. Over the course of its service, demands for more thrust & more electrical power will come around.

Whether we do it now or later we will eventually need a clean slate design with a good margin of growth.

Thanks. It makes sense to have a scalable core - I think they mentioned up to 145 kN in some places but again delays, time1749495195208.png

We achieved a stable, care free engine with over 52kn dry, 84kn wet in 2022, why the heck we are still waiting for some third party to come and say our engine is good, hf24 had much lower thrust buddies, so this engine is good enough to take flight. I hope we allow flight test centre to purchase a twin engine jet, put our engine and fly, have problem bring back hf 24 and fly.😔😞🔥 Pissed of with waiting in foreign soil for tests, take risks reward is great

Full of Half truths. We did not reach full designed thrust and will never without additional funding. Care free handling is for KDE. Which is yet to be flight tested. We are not waiting for anyone to evaluate Kaveri. We simply do not have the testing infrastructure to evaluate it ourselves, so we have to depend on others.

Bring back hf 24? what kind of fan fiction stuff you watch on youtube. Kids these days!.

Excuse me sir, when did we achieve 84kn thrust?? I thought that the existing k9 was at 71-72kn and further iteration ie kde hasnt been tested of ftb and hatf. From where did you get the info of 84kn in 2022. Are you an MoD insider? Pls tell us who will partner with gtre for 120kn engine

Presentation slide in page 67 of the forum which mentions carefree handling. About the trust, designed trust was achieved long time back, but sustaining that caused rumble and screech which made the afterburner unstable, now it's addressed. Another problem was fan and compressor which was not giving 1:30 compression, now it's giving. Improvement in sfc and full combustion acheived with lean burner and advanced automiser, last point was the bypass ratio many suggested to increase to give air to afterburner more but what happened I don't know. Hf24 is our airframe, completely ours, if OEM is not allowing them we use tested design 🙄, tedbf long wait, AMCA no scope of kaveri generation engine. IL aircraft or mig or su for them russian permission required.

Probably frustrated and annoyed seeing our guys waiting over 8 months now.

oh god these normies making up new stories. lmao

lmao kaveri was never designed for 30:1
its 27:1 which has still not achieved at max 21.5:1 is what we achieved.

I admire your optimism, but we need to be realistic with the timelines, so that we arrange for stopgap measures wherever required.

Can anyone tell what happened to the proposal of getting the IL-76 by GTRE from IAF as flying test bed for the Kaveri engine instead of waiting for a slot from Russia.

The immediate requirement is replacement to GE 404 engine, since GE is delaying supplies. This should also be considered parallelly along with AMCA program if it is feasible as stated

Called it.
Should drdo get green light to choose them as partner. They and RR are the 2 candidates and GE collab is not happening.

If Safran is chosen (likely) then almost certainly it will be 110kn thrust class engine as was the original idea. Never 120 or 130 kn. For amca 100-110kn thrust class was needed.
